eBay sellers should read this

For sellers on eBay beware that many of you are blocking bidders from bidding.
Your account has options that are preventing them from bidding.
A bidder is required to provide a payment method prior to placing a bid.
Not many of us buyers want to allow eBay the right to access our payment accounts.
Would you want anybody to take money from your accounts without you knowing?
You should review your eBay account settings to see what your buyers requirements are.
To do so please read this forum post:
I have recently done some research on this buyer's requirement to provide payment methods prior to bidding.
SELLERS DO HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THIS OPTION IN THEIR ACCOUNT!
Here is how to do it.
Step#1 Go onto ebay and at the top of the page is a menu "Help & Contact" link. Press this.
Step#2 A "how can we help you today" search bar will be displayed.
Step#3 Type into the search bar the phrase "setting buyers requirements" and hit the search icon.
Step#4 A new page will open. Press on the title "Setting Buyers Requirements.
Step#5 A 2 minute article page will open. About halfway down this article you will see a blue hyper link "Buyer Management".
Press on this link.
Step#6 About halfway down this option list, you will see " Buyers Rules"
Step #7 Uncheck the first two options:
#1Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid and
#2 Require all buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.
Step #8 Press "Save all changes".
I spent my time researching how to do this as I have noticed that while searching the listings for the 2025 coins, that many of the
coins that require a bid, now default to the provide requirement payment page.
This happens with new as well as seasoned sellers.
If sellers are happy to not get as many bidders as possible on their items, so be it.
I have notified sellers that this was preventing bidders from bidding.
Basic replys were not friendly.

What is the advantage of having a buyer who hasn't provided a payment method to eBay bidding on your auctions?

If you allow ebay to access your account, it allows ebay to take immediate payment from your account on any winning bids or offers on this one current item and on any future bids or offers immediately. This hurts buyers from receiving discounts on shipping reductions on multiple items won and allows them to deduct at anytime money from my account as they seem necessary.
There is no gurantee that if your account is hacked, that they will restore your funds.
Would you provide your bank account info on the internet?
I pay using PaypPal (well over 1000 payments and my only method of payment on eBay) immediatley upon an acceptance of an offer or a winning bid.
eBay knows how I pay!
My feedback is 100% on over 600 feedbacks left for me by buyers all stating immediate payment.
I have never sold an item on eBay or any where else.

npb is the least of the problem
I offer free shipping and 30-day free returns (I pay return shipping). It just got old dealing with non-paying customers, they had to do something about it.
The issue i wish they would address- Some customers want to use Paypal Credit and that has not been an option for the auto pay feature. Still even with that issue, i have not seen any impact on my sales.

Good information. Thanks for sharing with us all.
I've been on eBay since 1997 (selling Beanie Babies back in the day) and didn't know most of this.

Thou I am not a seller, but if I were to put something up for auction, I would want the most amount of bidders on it as possible.
NBP is an issue but I still have the item and can re-list it.
Yes, a pain but the more bidders, the more money potential gained.
Adding more bidders would surly out weigh the cost of relisting an item back up for sale.

What seller would not like me to bid on and win their item(s) with my feedback and history of payment?
There are many more buyers like me, that sellers. are preventing from bidding because of their account settings.

The same thing can be achieved in Selling Preferences>Your Buyers>Managing who can buy from you>edit
Thanks @WAYNEAS for the info. I made the changes. I rarely sell on eBay, but when I do make a listing, I want bidders like you in the game.
I like to think that the majority of people are well-intentioned. My general philosophy is to be permissive rather than restrictive as long as the risk of permissiveness isn't high. (I lock my car doors when I park, for instance!)
There's a coin dealer in my search list (browser bookmarks) that makes me log on before I can see his listings. (In fairness, it may be because I use a VPN that is also used by nefarious folk, and the domain may be on a "naughty list" somewhere). But having to log on to his site to even see what he's got for sale makes me visit far less frequently. Ain't nobody got time for dat! :-)

And to make that even easier, log in to your eBay account and then via Google type, "eBay selling preferences" and the page that pops up will be the exact page you need with you already logged in and ready to make those changes.

@WAYNEAS thanks to bring this to my attention I’ve now updated my eBay store https://ebay.us/hF2e9r
Glad to have helped.

@WAYNEAS Thanks, I have updated my store also.
Thanks Wayne, I wondered when this started. As several bids I have placed this year required selecting payment and had not done this last year. I would imagine Ebay probably did this with the seller unknowingly and said naught. JMO

I went looking to see if you could find that without doing a search. Eventually found it here:
My eBay -> Account -> Selling Preferences, scroll down to "Managing who can buy from you" and click Edit.

Buying a coin is a WANT not a NEED.
you block me I will go elsewhere , there are thousands
of other dealers. sellers need to sell or inventory gets stale.
One dealer blocked me for returning a $28 coin after I spent about $ 6k from him over many coins and kept everything.
Penny wise and pound foolish as the British say!
Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome.

Changes made. Thanks very much, Wayne!
There are still so many sellers out there that just will not take the time to review their settings.
So sellers here who have changed their settings, try to contact a seller and see if you can at least get them to do so.

This is the second time you've bumped this thread for attention, clearly this means a great deal to you. In the interest of discussion...each person is entitled to do whatever they like but I very strongly disagree with you.
Making a bid or an offer means that you are authorizing payment. It's a binding offer and the buyer providing payment is what binds it.
That explains why you don't understand the shenanigans that occur. I am an occasional seller on eBay, not a dealer. The only thing I want from eBay (as a seller) is a stress free and easy transaction. I don't want to have to chase down buyers for payment or issue invoices or re-list an auction coin after a 7-10 day auction. Accepting an Offer and then waiting for days for payment, or having to relist for non-payment is even worse.
That's totally irrelevant; buyers can't receive negative feedback! I'm confident the vast majority of people on this board stand behind their bids and offers. There are many people here I would happily send a coin to without payment. But this board is not the general eBay public.
There have been past threads about blocking ebay buyers - I probably have more blocked buyers than total sales. I just don't want to deal with it. If someone chooses not to bid because they don't like having a credit card on file, I could not care less. Vaya con dios.
PS - You also said:
I acknowledge I can be fairly prickly but if I randomly received that unsolicited message, I would also be in the not friendly camp.

I updated my selling account as well.
As a buyer, I have never been asked to provide a payment method to be able to bid - but that may be because I use a sniping program.
Thanks for the heads up on that, I didn't know that was selected either!

I read this thread. I did not change my settings. I have payment options on file with eBay, Amazon, Heritage, Stack's etc. While some people might not wish to, I'm not sure it's my responsibility to accommodate their paranoia. Contrary to the OP assertion that "not many people" would choose to put a payment option on file, the vast majority of buyers have no issue with it at all.
I see where the OP is coming from but I tend to view it similarly to how @lermish does. The non payment issue is a serious one and this extra step can help filter out some of those people that will not pay. Also, while it may not seem like a big deal if an item is not paid for, the "you can always relist it and haven't lost anything" mindset does not take into account the fact that items which are quickly relisted lose their "freshness" and there are plenty of people (I've seen it written here before) that will claim the seller is doing something nefarious (shill bidding, cancelling because they did not get enough, etc). Based on a non-payer, a seller can easily lose the underbidder(s) and end up getting much less the next time around. Plus there is the extra time that funds are tied up in a coin.
All valid points. I would also add, since this happened to me, someone can pretend to buy your coin so it is not in direct competition with a similar coin that they are selling. So they fake buy it until their auction ends.
Again, of all the problems you could have on eBay, non-payment is probably the smallest. But I really don't think having a payment method on file when you are bidding in an auction is an unreasonable request. In fact, I would say it is the bare minimum to ensure that you are a legitimate person as well as a legitimate buyer. While I understand that the OP is sure of his bona fides, no one else can be sure and he isn't being personally targeted.
Many people on here call any new poster with a junk coin a "troll", and many of them turn out to be. Those same bored people could also create an eBay account, and place insincere bids on dozens of items.
Sorry if I am misreading or not understanding some replys here.
To clarify:
I do have a payment method on file with eBay.
My method of payment is thru PayPal with a credit card.
I have used this account to pay for all of my purchases over many years.
The problem is that I will not allow eBay to access this payment method and deduct money from it anytime they wish.
Please review the " make an offer" listing, click on it and read the "fine" print.
It is the same fine print when eBay requests payment info prior to making a bid.
When you agree to their terms, you allow them to make an automatic deduction on this item and any future offers or purchases.
If you allow this, any multiple winnings won by you from the same seller's auctions will remove the shipping discount that might be offered.
eBay states that the seller MAY refund the shipping discount at their discrection.
Some sellers will and some will not.
My original thread was to state that sellers do have the ability to modify their buyer restrictions /options of which many sellers did not know.
When sellers are made aware that they can change these options, some sellers will opt to make these changes, some will not.
Sellers should also know that they can also allow certain buyers to bid on their items no matter what restrictions the seller has in place.
