Biting off more than one can chew, Library of coins type set part 1

I realize this is a lifelong project, but before attempting, are there any impossible coins, or even ones in fair shape with legible dates OVER 5k? I'd like to work in this with my son, and get as close as possible to finishing before I croak! Curious, if it's even possible.

Any help/advice appreciated

    You should be able to find the Early Type under $5k but they will be details coins, whether it is corrosion for the copper, or cleaning for the silver coins. You can find acceptable details coins in that price range IMO. It won't be impossible.

    Also, am I correct the album in the right is the 1st edition copyright 1959 (more beige colored than the photo) and the green is later as it has multiple copyright dates

    They have always been my favorite albums.
    At one time, I had all of them. Some of the Canada provinces were really tough, not the coins so much, but the LOC album.

    That album has a slot for the chain cent, that will be a tall order to source under 5K. Can be done but it won't be a "pretty" example. Heritage currently has an AG3 that ends this week and is bid to over 5K with the juice, I also see one FR2 listed on collectors corner at 5K.

    The Wreath cent will also have to be a very low grade or impaired example to stay under the 5K level. I'm sure there are others in that particular type set album that will also be a challenge.

    It's as early as it gets, hence why I asked. I will research those. Thanks!

    (After looking) Wow that Chain cent is a gorgeous piece! Fits right in with a "horror" cent.

    If it has a slot for the Draped Bust Small Eagle quarter then you are looking at $5k+ for anything that isn't loaded with problems. The same is true if it has a slot for the Seated Liberty Flying Eagle (Gobrecht) dollar. Lastly, if it has a slot for Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollars then you can either buy a brand new car or get a damaged, low-end coin. Of course, if gold is included then that is another problem.

    These albums don't have gold pages. . . (thank goodness!)

    The 1796 quarter will also be a little bit difficult at $5K limit but very low grade and maybe details.

    I'm a huge fan of the old LOC albums. The type set would be quite the challenge but I'd imagine very fun and rewarding.

    Seeing @LanLord 's LOC type set at one of the old Santa Clara shows years ago is what made me fall in love with those albums.

    There is just something special about them. Good luck on your new venture. I look forward to seeing your additions.

    Yes, like @lilolme mentioned and linked, the Beistle albums came first in the 1920s and then Wayte Raymond National Coin Albums starting in 1929. Then Meghrig and other ones that copied the National Coin Albums came out during WWII. It was after all of that that the Library of Coins and Dansco albums came out, I think in the 1950s.

    I do have it on good authority that lanlord no longer maintains the LOC type albums.

    It was like nails on a chalkboard every time I opened it up and half the coins rotated CCW, the other half CW. Occasionally, thin coins like half dimes would end up sliding between paper and cardboard in the pages.

    They are beautiful albums with a drawback for anyone that has OCD.

    Most everything went into our hosts plastic.

    Great coins and really cool endeavor.

    Fwiw, about 10 years ago I started a similar project, although it was the easier Dansco 7070 as opposed to your LOC type albums.

    I finished it as a registry set last month. “Made” all my coins with PCGS after suffering a slide damaged 09s VDB.

    Super tough indeed! I opted for the 7070 and completed it but it avoids a lot of the early... and harder... coins.
