i'd snap off a limb for us to snag Ashton Jeanty/Michael Myers at 10

it's not in my nature to act cocky when it comes to my team, primarily because they haven't given me reason to be in eons, but with him, Johnson, Caleb and our receiving corps, i'm confident we would wreck some defenses moving forward

just freaking do it if he's there

@galaxy27 Has there been any talk of the Bears possibly trading up for him? A package of #10, one of 39 or 41, plus a mid round pick next year should be enough to possibly move up into that 4-5 range. I'd take that type of return for #4 if the Pats missed out on Hunter and decided to move back for more picks.

I've been seeing Jeanty getting the most buzz going to the Raiders at #6. Their leading rusher had just 420yds in 14 games last season and Pete Carroll loves a big RB so that might be the team to ruin your Jeanty to the Bears dream.

That dude looks like he could probably wreak havoc at the LB position too.

lots of unsubstantiated rumors floating around, but i suspect that's what it would take to get him. to your point, the Raiders had no running game whatsoever last season, and look who their HC is now. i'm sure Pete is having wet dreams about Beast Mode part deux

One of the writers on the Pats website put out a mock with us taking him at 4 and most of the fanbase lost their minds. If we had any semblance of an OL it would make sense but now with this current group. Carolina is another team that I frequently see him mocked to but he'd pretty much be a great fit for about 95% of the league.

Louis Riddick, one of the better NFL talent evaluators, compared him to Emmit Smith which is pretty high praise. Its going to be interesting to see where he ultimately ends up.

File this one under the You Only Had One Job heading.
Back at the NFL Combine there was one guy tasked with getting all of the arm length measurements on the day scheduled for Offensive Linemen and he managed to shortchange every single player. This dude's mistake will likely end up causing some of these linemen to get drafted lower than expected and ultimately costing them money.

Most of the mock Drafts are pretty much in agreement for 1-6 but after that it gets a little hinky. I saw one projection that had Shedeur Sanders slipping all the way to the 26th pick!!! If that happens Neon Deion's head will have already exploded. :p

This mock on the NFL site has the Browns taking Carter at 2 then trading their 33/67/104 picks to move back into the first round to draft Shedeur with the Falcons #15 pick.

I heard some other NFL guy recently suggest the Giants drafting Travis Hunter at 3 then trading up from 34 to draft Shedeur too. Then next offseason make the coaching switch to Deion lol.

  • Basebal21Basebal21 Posts: 3,913 ✭✭✭✭✭

Deion would fail with how he treats people, but Nabers and Hunter would be an insane WR core talent wise.

@erikthredd, I put absolutely no stock in the wild predictions about trading picks that are made, those seem like writers just trying to “shock” and stand out.

Sanders won’t last to the 15th pick.

Also, remember that I live in the Cleveland area, NOBODY has mentioned anything like that. The talk is all Abdul Carter with their first pick and then round two, 33rd overall they have their sights on QB Jaxson Dart.

I just posted those two scenarios for entertainment value only and of course Sanders won't last until the 15th pick, he'll be gone by pick #2. 😎

The Cleveland Browns will not draft Sheduer Sanders.

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 2,602 ✭✭✭✭✭

Here's what I would do if I was Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam:
--- Since it seems clear that the 1st pick is gonna be Cam Ward and the Browns are going to take Abdul Carter, I would have a meeting. In attendance would be Owner Jimmy Haslam, GM Andrew Berry, HC Kevin Stefanski and whoever else they think needs to be there --- very private and unannounced with the object being the utmost secrecy. Devise a plan whereby they aren't really certain who they'll pick. Take offers to trade the pick and suggest other players they might be interested in choosing.

Bottom line is, if the club picks anyone besides Abdul Carter they should lose their job.

Wasn't it a certainty that Myles Garrett would be dealt as well? If there's one thing that is certain in all of this, its that we have no idea what will actually happen, we can only hope. Sounds like you're hoping that the Browns pass on Sanders and take Carter. I'm hoping for that as well so the Giants draft Sanders with the next pick and Hunter falls to NE. 🤞We can only hope.

Bottom line is, if the club picks anyone besides Abdul Carter they should lose their job.
In most instances I'd agree but what if we find out its actually the owner that tells the GM to draft the quarterback? There's not much the GM can do in that situation other than draft the QB.

Sidenote that's sort of related. Belichick wrote a book that will be getting released in the near future and someone recently mentioned an excerpt from it. Heading into every draft the Krafts would hand BB a list of 5 college players that Bob & Jonathan Kraft liked and BB was required to draft one of these players each year. I tried verifying if that report was true but won't be able to until the books gets published. Pretty crazy if that is true though and could be part of the reason why Bill traded back so much to add extra draft picks. It makes you wonder how often stuff like that happens across the league yet we never really hear about it.

I don't know if it was ever a certainty that Garrett would be traded but I think it's closer to certain that the Browns will draft Carter.

I could see them potentially drafting him and trading him like the Chargers did with Eli. I really hope Dart finds a better landing spot though

From an article at si.com I just read:

On Tuesday, NFL owners voted to approve a proposal that would make statistics from the All-America Football Conference an official part of NFL history. The AAFC lasted from 1946 to 1949 when some of the teams were folded into the NFL.

I really think they should re do the statistical. leaders by decade, or some type of different periods in the history of the league.

It's completely unfair to put guys like Baugh, Graham and Tittle against Manning, Brady and other modern era QB's

    Same with RB,WR

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 2,602 ✭✭✭✭✭

This has really been a long time coming. Ever since the NFL merged with the AFL and recognized their stats it really set a precedent for the AAFC which the NFL had merged with prior to the 1950 season. I don't really think your proposal to look at stats by decade is necessary so long as the HOF in Canton maintains the stats, makes them easily accessible to fans and promotes the quality of play from the different eras. It brings about good, healthy discussion as long as modern day fans care about the history of football. When those same fans go into ostrich mode the problems start.

I wish that more archived film from those days was more readily available. I fully believe that if fans saw those players in action they would accept the quality of play from those days. Sure, it was different in some ways but at its heart the NFL really hasn't changed much. The players might be bigger and the rules are somewhat modified, but it's still run the ball, catch the ball and tackle the ball carrier. To me it's the same game I played with the neighborhood guys growing up and watched on weekends.

I don't know where you guys are getting your news from, but Nick Chubb hasn't signed with the Patriots or anyone else. Nowhere on a major Sports network is this reported that I can find, not a peep about it at the Cleveland Browns homepage. Chubb is extremely popular in Cleveland, local media would be all over this.

Just a week or two ago a friend of mine who's a Steelers fan showed up chirping about Chubb signing with the Steelers. Same thing, nowhere could anything be found and he couldn't even find anything when he got home. There are a few quasi-sports networks that specialize in all this speculation, the worst is a site called TWSN(The Wrightway Sports Network).

If you believe this story, post a link to it in a reply.

Not a bite, I know it's the 1st and I know people are posting silly stuff. Like I said, false stories and speculation have been swirling around Nick Chubb for at least a month now. There's one with this exact story at the bogus site, they seem to post nothing but garbage. It's like stories from Newsmax that my sister would text me about. I had to explain some stuff to her but I finally got her off the site. It's really a symptom of "social media" and the fact that many, many people choose to get their "information" from non-credible sources.

Places like Youtube, Facebook, X and yes, the PCGS Forums are sources of entertainment, not news. It's embarrassing to me that the population is so dumbed down today and tends not to have any intellectual curiosity. At a time in the History of the World when more knowledge than ever is available most people choose not to avail themselves of that.

A Decade Statical Documentary Would Be Too Cool...

You could go with Weekly Leader's from both areas covering the High's & Low's...

The teams draft picks & trades covering week to week...

an In-depth coverage with the In's and Out's during Playoff time...

A point differential from week to week..

Focusing on week 1 to see how that 48 Outside Right was Executed, and Fast Forward to week 14 for Really Old School; or even go to a Slightly Newer Old School to week 16 and see the Good's and Bad's of that particular play...
Did your Guard's Pull & Curl???
Did your Tight End pick up the corner Linebacker???
Did your Left Tackle & Guard Cross-Block to Isolate the Experience of a Alan Page or Jim Marshall???
Was the Defensive Tackle Stunting over Center???

Have the Documentary start out in black & white...switch to color...and for the New School Football go with something like a Hi-Def 3D gig...

I mean... Really Break Down The Decade...Break It Down...

Break It Down Like A Mad Football Scientist Such As Myself..

You know that John Facenda would call it:
    A Decade To Remember...👍🏈

I would have been pissed if the Patriots spent money on Chubb

The guy is washed up from his knee injury

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,566 ✭✭✭✭✭

yup, before I thought about the date, I was thinking, do we really need a broken down 29 year old RB???

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 2,602 ✭✭✭✭✭

a broken down 29 year old RB who was arguably the best RB in the NFL at the time of his injury.. He'll be OK was his rehab is complete.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,410 ✭✭✭✭✭

As long as his medicals checked out that he's on track to be ready for the start of the season or close to it, I'm down with signing Nick Chubb to a low risk/high reward incentive laden contract similar to what they did with Stefon Diggs. Basically a one year deal with a decent salary for Chubb.
NE still has 67M in available cap space and barring a trade for a high salaried player, the majority of that cap space will just get rolled over to 2026 once the rookie pool amount gets deducted after the draft. Money should not be an issue for this football team so take that gamble and see how it goes. The potential payoff is absolutely worth the risk, IMO, and if he doesn't pan out they're just out his 2025 salary. The Pats need to improve their offense every chance that they get even if its just incrementally.

maybe at the time of his injury. now he is 3 years removed from that completely blown out knee and I believe a broken foot/ankle last year.

we all know the shelf life of 29 year old running backs...

I would not pay big money (or any money) for that RB.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,410 ✭✭✭✭✭

Chubb played on a 1yr 2.2M contract last season. The NFL vet minimum for a player with Chubb's 7 years of NFL experience is 1.2M. If NE signed him to be their #3 RB on their depth chart it would be for the equivalent of chump change in the grand scheme of things.

Not wanting to sign the guy due to his recent injury history is a valid concern but pointing at his potential salary as one should be a complete nonfactor.

Plus its not like it would be guaranteed money anyways.

Patriots will be making a mistake though if they go DT and take Graham with their first pick who they are hosting. Maye needs help whether that be a weapon or protection

As far as Graham goes, its likely just the team doing their due diligence in checking out that handfuld of nonQBs expected to get picked in that range. Personally, i'd prefer the pick to be on offense unless they find a trade partner.
