I can't really blame Mayo for winning that game when, if the rumors are true, he went into it knowing he would be getting canned immediately after. Playing to win was basically Mayo giving Kraft the finger on his way out the door after he set him up to fail, then firing him when he did.

Not to rile up our bro' Bro' here but all of the blame for that situation falls solely at the feet of Robert Kraft imho.

yes, Mayo never should have been allowed to coach that game if he knew he was getting canned. 100% on Kraft/front office. That meaningless win screwed the team and the fan base.

Here's another way to look at it...Which scenario sounds more promising?
Option 1: We own the 1st overall pick but Mayo is coming back for season two with his somewhat inexperienced coaching staff still in place.
    OR
Option 2: We own the 4th overall pick with Vrabel running things along with two of the best coordinators in football in Josh McD & Terrell Williams.

I'm option 2 all day everyday.

I am not sure why it had to be one or the other of those 2 options. Fire Mayo before the final game instead of after and then proceed with replacing the coaching staff.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Sure, it would have been great to get the best of both worlds there but for all we know, the rumors saying that Mayo was definitely canned pregame could just be conspiracy theories from the idiots with microphones. Its pretty sad that we need to do all of these mental gymnastics when talking about our local sports teams but that's the world we live in.

shows you how utterly stupid kraft is.

Piss the guy off but let him stay to get fired right after the critical game. who'd a thunk that would happen ?

are there 2 brain cells in the kraft family ? It didn't occur to either of these geniuses that Mayo might decide to stick it to them? Turnabout being fairplay and all

Kraft is a bigger narcissist than gerry jones , oh everyone loves me I'm such a great guy I let Jerrod stay for the last game I'm a beloved local figure !

    loser

So you want to bring back Mayo for year two and then fire him two months into the season if he sucks? Bro, that is a horrible option lol.

Mayo unfortunately was collateral damage but the entire franchise is much better off today than they were heading into week 18 back in January. The guy clearly wasn't anywhere close to being ready for a head coaching position.

He is so concerned about his image , can't fire Jerrod because it will look bad for me , the benevolent matriarch of patriots nation . Meanwhile , his image is that of a pervert dwarf , no one likes him . He is , in the words of wally from leave it to beaver " a little creep"

No first time NFL head coach gets fired 6 games into his first season especially when the entire NFL world knew that the team he was coaching was complete ass to begin with. If that happened you'd be condemning Kraft for that decision right now.

My Not to rile up our bro' Bro' here remark from earlier was meant in good faith and was thinking solely about you not losing your shit for the millionth time after seeing Kraft's name here lol.

Little Bobby K has a sad because Billy B was mean to him , didn't consider his tender feelings about this and that. Mayo was the grossly over supportive suck up whispering in his little hairy hobbit ear . "That thing Bill said to you was wrong , Mr Kraft :D If I was coach I'd treat you real nice ! "

Mayo acted the part of bobby strip malls therapist and got promoted way beyond his capabilities then when it clearly wasnt working , Kraft and his Kreepy midget family acted like Jerrod was betraying him . UMMM No Bob , you gave the HC job to a parking lot attendant , who wouldn't challenge you , and it blew up. another failed season , man you can't run a team to save your life can you ?

Everytime I see kraft or his george costanza assistant to the travelling secretary son I want to vomit.

oh man, that would have been terrible. I remember my wife went to bed after the halftime show and I woke her up in the 4th quarter. thought she would be mad because the outcome was still very much in doubt at that time.

    she was not mad
