Restrepo is your guy if you want the low drop rate lol. I do have to give Harbaugh credit though with him trying to sell McCarthy as the best QB to trick someone to trade up did make me laugh.

I'm not entirely out on McCarthy yet and I hope he does actually get out there so we can actually assess him for his actual play. I would never call a knee injury like that a blessing in disquise but having time off where he got to sit and learn the playbook had to be a huge positive for him going forward. Hopefully, for his sake, his knee holds up.

Minnesota doesn't own many picks and the ones that they do own are widely spaced apart (24/97/139/187) so there may not be much more help coming to that offense. They may be looking at finding another CB with that first pick after last year's 4th round CB Khryee Jackson lost his life in a tragic car accident. OL is another big need but getting Darrisaw back from IR should be huge.

We've officially reached the point of straight up fantasy draft trades here in Boston. The first one is NE trading #4 to the Raiders for #6 & LT Kolton Miller, who wants a new extension with one year left on his deal. The second one is even farther out there, if Abdul Carter falls to pick #4 he gets traded to the Eagles for AJ Brown plus some other pick compensation. The local media here is trying really hard to talk this one into existence. 😂

I had my career ended by a knee surgery I really think one of two things is going on. I think Darnold was going to beat him out either way unless the Vikings just said this is our guy from where we drafted him, Darnold is just flat out better. With how long hes been out I suspect either theyre covering for him blaming the injury or there were complications with the surgery.

I dont like him at all other than a backup, but the weapons the Vikings have right now have the ability to cover for him as long as that group stays together in their primes.

I dont think they really need much more help on the offense and agree that I think they will go mostly defense. Its not a great offensive draft overall all anyways and other than the first pick theres no real reason for them to try and stretch for an offensive player with upside

I always love the funny trades that happen in the media where be the end you end up with like Mahomes for a 4th round pick lol.

For the Pats I think its going to be Campell and I think only Hunter could change that assuming someone doesnt sell the house to trade up. Barring trades I thin Tennessee or the Browns will take Hunter and the Giants seem to want either Dart or Sanaders who a few guys dont really want.

There's actually been some fresh news on McCarthy since I posted that last comment and it sounds like he's finally good to go heading into training camp. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44785746/jj-mccarthy-no-limitations-offseason-work-coach-says

The AJ Brown one was hilarious, a local STR show actually treated that one like it was breaking news from an insider when it was just some fan pulling it out of their ass lol. (and to the lurker following along, No that was not my ass 😉)

While I'd love to see us land Hunter, I'm just expecting the pick will be Campbell which I have zero issue with. I doubt that anyone will want to trade into that spot unless maybe Carter gets by the Giants, at that point I'd rather just see if someone would be willing to move up for him rather than go with defense on our first pick. They need someone who can start at LT from day one and all of the best options (Campbell/Banks/Simmons/Conerly) are all going to get scooped up real quick, Ersery might even be off the board by the time we get to 38 as well. Just grab our LT then go BPA from there.

Even being healthy now something to have happened or saving his ego. His surgery is supposed to 4-6 weeks for an average person and he was getting world class health care and a lot more attention than normal people get.

Browns is a really funny one. I always love those where its one of those options you would instantly click decline in your fantasy league

I think theres a pretty good chance Carter or Hunter will still be there and Carter would be a mistake. Theres going to be be EDGE guys that are legitimate first round talents that will still be there in the 2nd just because theres only so many picks. I think the Giants are going to go QB which Nabers wants them too, I can easily see Hunter going to Cleveland. Someone might trade up with the Titans to get Ward or they might just go ahead and take Ward or Hunter depending if theyre ready to give up on Levis.

I would just be surprised if Carter and Hunter were 1 2 in the draft especially with Carters injury and how good the edge class is. Hunter is really the only guy I would take over Campbell with that pick. Campbell is a beast and even if Carter is still there I would take Campbell

I don't think it was anything like that at all, there was probably just some complication that came up that led to his rehab/recovery time taking longer than expected.

The same thing happened with Tom Brady back in 2008 after going down for the season with a knee injury in that week one Chiefs game. He had his surgery and then when he started ramping up his rehab, there was a setback that led to going under the knife for a second time. There was even talk that he might not be ready for opening weekend in 2009 but he ultimately was good to go by then.

BC's Ezeiruaku is one that gets a lot of love here, for obvious reasons. He's one of the Edge names that I see drop to 38 in alot of sim runs, Nick Scourton & James Pearce Jr too. If Ezeiruaku is gone, I'd probably look for a WR or LG type there. There's still going to be a ton of really good Edge types available in that 100-150 range so I'd be cool with holding off until a bit later for one, same with DT.

Brady had an infection that required a second surgery and was significantly older as well. I wouldnt say those are really that comparable unless things are being hidden

It just doesnt make sense for him to have been out that long for what it was without something happening or buyers remorse on that pick

Sourton might be there unless the first round is just all edge guys. Ivey is another guy thats a first round talent that should be there top of the second. Id still like to see it be a WR on that second one depending whose left, but I can see a lot of scenarios where an EDGE guy would be the smart pick

Well let's see what happens, I highly doubt we are going to see Hunter in a Pats I uniform after all the chit chat, I won't be upset if that LT is the pick I guess

My point remains the same, Tom had a setback, as did McCarthy. It happens. I know you're not a fan of the guy but there doesn't need to be some grand cover-up like you seem to think happened there. All reports are that he's good to go now so I'll just end that topic here.

Its tough to predict what Vrabel might do after their first pick which everyone expects it to be Campbell but even that isn't set in stone yet. He signed a handful of defensive starters in free agency so the consensus here think that he'll go heavy on offense over the next few days. Above all else I'm just hoping that he stabilizes their OL and adds tackle depth, I learned many years ago that playing GM heading into the draft is always fun but ultimately an exercise in futility because this stuff never happens as you hope lol.

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,613 ✭✭✭✭✭

I would be very happy if half of our picks were OL. we need both starters and depth.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,555 ✭✭✭✭✭

Give me Will Campbell and two BC linemen (Tackle Ozzy Trapilo & Center Drew Kendall) at later points in this draft and I'd be a happy man. With all of the ties between BC and our new coaching staff, I wouldn't be surprised to see those three players as having the best odds to get drafted by New England.

I know it happens but they havent exactly been forthcoming if thats the case. I wasnt saying it was for sure an excuse but my point was it had to either be complications or that because he should have been good to go during last year and he wasnt.

And you are spot on I dont think hes very good lol.

Lol so true, its really impossible to predict where guys will go other than a range they should be in. It seems like every year theres at least 1 team that just does something crazy that can have a snowball effect of other teams panicking with a run on the position or like when the Wikings just didnt get there pick in and dropped 2 spots

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,555 ✭✭✭✭✭

Starting off with the caveat that they'll still need to prove it on an NFL field, this might be the best Patriots draft class in many years. I really loved their top 7 picks.

They came away with two tackles that played on the left side in 2024, Will Campbell was one and in the later rounds with Mizzou OT Marcus Bryant. Jared Wilson will likely become the starting Center at some point even if its not right away. McDaniels also got a couple of shifty/speedy playmakers in TreVeyon Henderson & Kyle Williams to work with.

The defense added a big athletic safety to possibly take over that former Devin McCourty centerfielder role and their front seven got a boost with the Farmer & Swinson picks.

I don't know what to make of the kicker, long snapper & Mr Irrelevant CB picks but once you get that far into the back end of the draft, they're all longshots at best.

Two UDFA's to keep an eye on after signing with the Pats last night.
Eastern Washington WR Efton Chism who is a Wes Welker/Julian Edelman clone that played at the same college that produced Cooper Kupp.
Alabama TE C.J. Dippre who would have a real shot at making the roster when the Tight End position consists of just two players in the 30's (Henry/Hooper) and not much else.

I'm not making any predictions on win totals but between free agency and this draft they've raised their level of talent considerably which should lead to a better product on the field in 2025. ALso, once you deduct the cost for their rookie class, they should still have at least 40+M that could be used to keep adding to their roster.

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,613 ✭✭✭✭✭

I agree. I was very happy with the FA additions and am also very happy with the draft. the OL picks made me VERY happy as well as the two playmakers.

barring injury, we should have a much better product on the field this season. Excited for September to come

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Im not even going to attempt to spell the kicker name but he was very accurate including on 50+ yard FGs. He doesnt have that leg like some of the others where they can hit from 70 yards if a coach would let them, but in his range he was consistent

I don't know really anything about him other than the school he played for. Fans are already complaining that if were were going to draft a kicker then it should have been one from a cold weather school, not Miami lol.

I dont like drafting kickers, but he was a legit weapon for them. FGs were basically automatic for them his last two years and I wouldnt be surprised at all if he ends up being the kicker this year

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 31,404 ✭✭✭✭✭

Didn't we draft a kicker in the 3rd or 4th round from a Division 2 school during Belichek's last couple years?

He had some militia tattoo on his arm that he got removed and then they cut him lol.

One of the dumbest things all around ever

    40 million to spend?

that would cut into the massage parlor budget

for normal folk that wouldnt be a problem but they charge on a sliding scale based on how creepy the client is

for a greasy gnome like bob its basically like 3 visits

ok now thats my quota for april

Its a shame that NE didn't use their Mr. Irrelevant pick on that long snapper that they drafted earlier in round 7, there would have been considerably more attention on that pick which would have led to even more Pats fans tears over the past few days lol.
