THE Mount Spurr VOLCANO ERUPTION WATCH CONTINUES

Friday brought clear skies allowing for spectacular views of expected soon to erupt Mount Spurr Volcano located just 80 miles west of Anchorage. In the Friday videos one can see evidence of steam coming from the Volcano's summit crater. My Friday taken videos are the first four in the below linked Playlist.

Steam arising out of the Volcano's Summit Crater was verified by an Alaska Volcano Observatory flyover on Friday looking directly down into the crater.

In addition the Alert level has now been raised by the Alaska Volcano Observatory as the chance of a violent eruption that would spew ash on Anchorage is now considered even more likely.

Now three days later Mount Spurr is currently obscured by ash colored clouds as seen in the second set of four videos included in this Playlist.

This scene is from the 1966 Czechoslovakian film "Closely Watched Trains" which is set in 1944-1945 during the German occupation of the country.

The car is called a "draisine" which is a light auxiliary rail vehicle driven by service personnel.

Yesterday's Massive Plume of Steam from Volcano Mt Spurr's Summit Crater Captured in Video and Photos

Screenshot from Last Night's News Broadcast:

    Screenshot from my video:

In the first few seconds of this below linked video a plume of steam is seen rising from the Summit Crater of Alaska Volcano Mt Spurr. This event is the most visible evidence to date of the volcano''s activity consistent with the Alaska Volcano Observatory's Alert that an eruption is most likely expected.

Following the impressive plume of steam the camera pans eastward toward majestic Mt Susitna and on to the Port of Anchorage located some 80 miles distant from Mt Spurr.

COMPARING JAPAN'S ACTIVE STRATOVOLCANOS SAKURAJIMA AND MT FUJI TO STRATOVOLCANO MT SPURR

Sakurajima, Japan’s Most Active Volcano, Looms Over Kagoshima Port Send Off

As the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship departs from Kagoshima Port the citizens join together to offer a grateful send off complete with a band performance.

Looming above them is Japan’s most active volcano, Sakurajima that continues to steam and intermittently spew light ash after its last major 2022 eruption that sent cinders into the air.

Mount Fuji, which last erupted in 1707/8, is also an active stratovolcano.

As the early morning sunrise lights the horizon, a sunlit Mount Fuji capped by snow comes into view.

Sometimes you just get lucky. I just happened to be filming a status video recording today's swirling steam clouds circling the top of the volatile Alaska Volcano located within ash spewing distance of where I stood - when into my frame appeared an airplane directly and closely flying over Mount Spurr's Summit Crater as the Volcano was emitting volcanic steam.

While I was aware that over the past several weeks the Alaska Volcano Observatory had on two separate occasions had an airplane fly similarly close to the volcano for scientific observations, little did I expect that I would ever chance to capture on video such a close similar fly by. It was the first time since the eruption alerts have gone out earlier this year that I have seen any airplane approach Mount Spurr so close, much less fly directly over its now steaming crater that could potentially erupt and violently explode at any time.

Link below to Today's Video of Airplane Flying Close to Mt Spurr and directly over its steaming Summit Crater:

(Likely an Alaska Volcano Observatory Plane, watch as the brave Pilot flies close and directly over Mount Spurr’s open Summit Crater with Volcanic Steam seen swirling at its top.

Alaska’s Mount Spurr Volcano is under an elevated alert level for a violent eruption and as of yesterday the volcanic steam was shooting upward in a massive plume as can be seen on this channel #dalejay8901 as posted earlier today.)

    REMEMBERING THE GREAT ALASKA EARTHQUAKE

Today, March 27th is a day of commemoration of the Great Alaska Earthquake of 9.2 Magnitude that occurred on this date in1964. It remains the largest recored earthquake in North America.

The earthquake alert on my smartphone has just signaled that within the last hour two earthquakes, one over over 7 and the other over 6 magnitude ocuredin what was once Burma. That coupled with the fact that a multitude of smaller earthquakes are being recorded at the site of Alaska's awakening Mt. Spurr Volcano some 80 miles close to Anchorage are reminders that we live on a delicate planet and remain subject to the forces of nature despite our limited ability to exert control.

Here is my own brief recollection: of that eventful day:

“I was here in Anchorage during the 1964 earthquake and at home watching my baby sister and at the dining room table doing homework,

At first I thought it was fun riding out the shaking but then when the roof started creaking I became concerned the roof might fall in.  I went to get my baby sister so we could get out of the house. As I returned back to where I had been sitting there was glass and broken China everywhere as the China cabinet behind where I had been sitting had spilled its contents.

Another thing I vividly recall was the tiled concrete hallway floor just rolled left and right as I had to brace myself between the walls to get to the bedroom to reach my sister in her crib.

After we got outside at some point I climbed up on the roof to see downtown.  When I saw the Westward Hotel (now the original tower of the Hilton Hotel) still standing, I thought to myself the earthquake must not have been that big of a deal after all.

In the days following the earthquake I helped with other Explorer Scouts to deliver Ham Radio messages received by the Civil Defense authority to businesses downtown.  We were allowed access to the most damaged areas that were being secured by the National Guard to prevent looting.”

And here are some photos taken by myself and my Dad at the time of the Great Alaska Earthquake in 1964:
