Thanks for the up date. I cancelled my subscription last October, but will consider having it reinstated, once their snafus have been ironed out. I'll check back in April for any changes

"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
  • I wrote to them a few days ago asking for an update. I got a reply this morning:

"The weeklies are currently on hold, we hope to resume shipping them very soon. Unfortunately, at this point, I do not have an exact date, we anticipate restarting the printing in late April or early May. "

So, at a minimum another six to eight weeks, not counting time in transit. That's a full six months of shutdown. It's sad to see this problem persist for so long after 60+ years of them reliably serving the hobby.

    Ha! :D

A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!

  • I had renewed my subscription in September, literally just before everything fell apart. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and hung in there despite lots of failed promises for when deliveries would restart. I finally gave up the other day and asked for a refund since I've only gotten 3 out of the 24 issues owed me since September. Today I got a reply saying that weekly publication is "anticipated" to restart at the end of April -- did I still want to cancel? I responded:

_Please cancel and refund. I've had endless promises of anticipated deliveries over the past six months. None have come to pass.

It's now March 22. I have yet to receive the March issue, which should have come weeks ago, in advance of the cover date. Any ads or auction reports will be long out of date by the time it arrives.

Adding insult to injury, I was very disappointed to find that all of the feature (non-news) articles in the February monthly issue were reprints dating back to 2016 to 2018. That's just sad.

I'm sorry to say that. As I've said before, I've been a loyal subscriber for many decades. But my confidence is gone. If things get back to normal, I'll happily resubscribe. But for now, I'm out._

It truly is sad that they had to dig into old issues to find copy to flesh out the March issue. Clearly they've lost some writers and are scrambling to find articles to fill space.

@ReneR , when you say they’ve “lost” some writers, I read earlier in this thread from one decades long popular writer that they’ve laid him off!

It’s a shame, but I think the printed version of “Coin World” is gone. I called them, and the representative evaded the issue. My subscription has been extended, but there is no indication that the printed version is coming back. It’s like our local newspaper. It’s on the computer, and they do publish twice a week, but that’s it.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Why buy into online articles subscription when they are just recycling old material ?

Found in another COIN WORLD thread here:

" For the last few months, Coin World has been reprinting my old columns. I stopped submitting new material in November after they fell 4 1/2 months behind in paying me. So, after 16 years of uninterrupted productivity, it looks like I may need to find a new writing or consulting gig. I'm open to any offers or suggestions. -- Mike Diamond "

That’s terrible one can’t get the printed CW magazine anymore. The new world of tech has nerfed a lot of things.

It's all indicating a business that is likely failing, very sad for me to say so. It continues in a downward spiral, and will probably keep deteriorating. They obviously need money, not being able to print, not paying contributors, laying individuals off, etc. So, as subscribers get frustrated, disappointed, cancel... even less money coming in, and the spiral gets even stronger. A black hole.

At this point, it will likely take a buyer with deep pockets to come in.

I see the March edition on-line as well. I had hoped to get a printed version as it includes my 1st article on counterfeits for Coin World...

Numismatists have access to an exponentialiy greater amount of information now then when Coin World was a full-fledged newspaper. Mostly on the web. I know people do not want to hear that on this thread but that is the reason print struggles.

  • I got a response this morning to my request to cancel:

    Hello,

I sincerely apologize for the delay and the lack of communication.

I have cancelled the subscription and a refund will be issued.
