i wouldn't call and just go, or, second, i'd keep the call a secret and buy some. the masses read this forum. perhaps an early thursday task. know anyone next to the mint
medals don't have a strict expiration date tho i'd imagine they keep their offerings fresh. however a future choice could reverse the decision

@PerryHall, I don't think the intent of this medal was to promote any agenda, it's simply to commemorate the Capital Police and others who acted to protect the Capital. On the other hand, removal of it from possible sales might have something to do with an agenda.

Do the presidents/spouses need to be dead before they get their dollar/medal or is that program over? Does anyone know what will happen when the president terms are not sequential?

I believe that Congress must pass an Act specific to the recently deceased president and spouse, as the original programs have expired. That’s what was done with George and Barbara Bush. Also, I believe two years must pass after the president’s death. So, we should see an Act authorizing coins for the Carters in 2027.

And yes, the president must be deceased. The Carters were skipped over in the original program.
I remember reading that 4 years have to pass after someones death before they can be on any of our currency. Could also be 2 years though.

Since the Congressional inquiry was not performed in a legal manner we really don't know the true facts surrounding this event thus the Medal would be considered an error piece.
Seems like there is something out there regarding displaying living persons on currency. As Bush died in 2018 and his coin was issued in 2020, two years applies here. I seem to recall that the two years was in the original Act authorizing the presidents series.

Ok, just read the initial presidential coin Act of 2005 and the 2020 Act specific to George and Barbara. The original act does not apply to living presidents and requires Congress to act again if subsequent presidents and spouses are added. Congress added George and Barbara in 2020. No mention that I saw regarding a “waiting period”. So, new presidents would be added if and when Congress gets around to it. We shall see.

I agree. I like dollar coins and wish they circulated more frequently. Unfortunately, as much as I like them, the fact that the date is on the edge kills a lot of my enthusiasm for them.
I can’t recall seeing a presidential dollar in circulation. It’s odd that they were released in circulation at the same time that the Sacagawea dollars were being released, although that practice was halted after a few years.
What kills a lot of my enthusiasm is how unappealingly tarnished they look once they have circulated for a short time.
If they actually circulate a bit then they take on an attractive brass color with lighter highlights. The nastiness occurs when they pass through just enough hands to tarnish without developing a thicker skin.

$60?! for the 3 inch? I thought a few years ago they jacked up the price of the 3" medals to a hundred bucks or more. I recall getting an order for various medals in right before the increase went into effect.
I'll have to check the current prices as they had some really great designs, such as the Tuskeegee Airmen medal.

What did these sized medals use to cost 10 to 20 years ago? I thought it was a small fraction of the current price.
Also, have they ever given number sold for any of these types of medals in the past.

I think the smaller medals were $5.95 or something like that, and the large ones were around $35.
I don't recall, ever seeing mintage figures on any mint medal except for special issues like the silver 9/11 anniversary medals. They are open-ended mintage but can (and do) go off-sale eventually.
