The 1914-D Saints do not come as lustrous as the ultra common 1924 Saint.

Note that this coin was graded by NGC and stickered by CAC.

    MS64. The surfaces are super clean and the strike is good. Yeah the luster, and thus eye appeal, is a subdued but 64 seems fair. A couple tiny ticks at the bottom of rays on the reverse but they're otherwise pristine.

    JA likes it a a C level MS-63 not enough for a gold sticker on a 62 grade or a green sticker on a 63 grade.

    If it looks like the pics it's a 65 with strong luster. That's a crazy deduction to 62. Sure the eye appeal drops with the luster but not THAT much. It's an awesome coin for a truly MS piece with minimal contact marks and a good strike.

    I agree, I think it's correctly graded at 62.

    I agree with that, very small. At 20X like the image above they're quite noticeable.

    It is not the numerous small bag marks in the devices that drives the grade below MS-62 or MS-63 but bagmarks in the open fields. Agreed that this 1914-D Saint is very clean and nearly devoid of bagmarks and scrapes in the open fields.

    Looking at the photo by Great Collections, I would have said MS-64. Looking at your close-up photo, I would say the MS-62 is the right call.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    This is why I like posting threads on viewing photos of coins. The difference in the photos can throw off even the best graders among us even when not overtly trying to deceive. Doing such threads and comparing our reactions to various photos can only sharpen our ability to partially guess at the grades of the photos we view. Still not as accurate as viewing in person.
