I have the worst time grading Buffalo Nickels that are known to a bad strike, and this 23 s buffalo is no different.
Thought I would ask here and get some opinions....

50 would be my floor. I think 53-55 is possible. Terrific coin

The coin looks approximately AU50 to me.

It’s actually a phenomenal stike and wonderfully fresh die state for this issue. I’ve found the 23-s the most difficult to obtain with anything that approaches eye appeal. I still think the wear it takes it down to XF territory though.

Something about it doesn't look quite right to me. The rims, I think. Also the horizontal apparent die scratches across the Bison's body. So I am suspicious of the authenticity, but I would need to study further.
XF45. A nice circulated example of that date!

You're right, these are tough to grade. I'd say EF-45.

Looks like an XF45 that I own in an 18-D. Nice coin.
Everyone seems to be in the xf-40 45 range which I agree, graders are tough on Buffs for some reason a lot of the times it seems like they give the grade according to the reverse instead of the obverse.
FWIW, as a comparison, here's my AU55:
