Here is a $20 gold piece that was recovered from the wreck of the SS Central America. Many of these coins were 1857-S coins which were to be delivered to the east coast.

Picked this up just over melt on GC last month. 1987 was the first year $25 proofs were struck by the U.S. Mint. PCGS PR69DCAM. A tiny tick or two from a 70, I needed 7x to see any them.
I happily own this one. I also have a $10 Indian, a pair of $2.50, and a $5 piece. Should my income get back to disposable I intend to start a collection of $2.50 pieces.

My passion is Double Eagles, mostly Saint-Gaudens but spending more time with Liberty Head DEs of late. Picked this coin up at FUN 2020, my 1st big coin show that I attended (looking to go back for FUN 2026). It's a 1923-D....MS-66...in an OGH (Old Green Holder).
I don't have an extensive collection but I do have extensive resources in multiple formats: books, PDFs, Word docs, dated articles, etc. Should you have any questions, especially for a beginner purchase or where to start looking, I was in YOUR place only a few years ago.

Thanks, but no. The Type 2 is dated 1854 and I don't believe that there are any type 3 dollars dated 1854.
Just the counterfeit ones. My monitor and the shadows make it difficult for me to see much of anything on yours in that slot.

Next time there's a large show you're planning to attend, take a couple of cases in the exhibit area and show off these beauties. No special write up needed. Just a large bucket and mop to clean up the drool. These are amazing!!

The coin below was in the SB auction yesterday. Although I thought I made a strong bid, it was only 3rd best.
It’s the Closed Wreath variety even though the ID# indicates Open Wreath. The latter was the only number used during that grading period.
