Hello! My name is Richard (aka “TheRichieCache”), and I’m passionate about collecting coins, currency, and precious metals. My brother, @asheland, has been telling me about you for years and encouraged me to join. And now I have finally done so.
I enjoy exploring the history and stories behind each piece in my collection, whether it’s a rare coin, vintage banknote, or a unique bullion design.
I’m always looking to expand my knowledge, connect with fellow collectors, and share insights about this fascinating hobby. I believe every piece has a story to tell, and I look forward to exchanging experiences and ideas with others in the forum!

Welcome to the forum. Do you specialize in any one series, or more of a type collector?
@Smudge that is gorgeous! I have a 78 too but not that attractive.
Great coin!

I am more of a type collector. I started when I was a kid. I’ve gained some. I’ve lost some. I’ve gained some more of lost and more so it’s been kinda haphazard. But now with my brother and I talking more and more I’m going to be more focused. One of my favorites is the walking liberty half dollar. I also have been trying to collect the half dollar commemoratives.
Thank you for the welcome! I greatly appreciate it. I look forward to more interactions.
These are awesome! Thank you for the welcome!
Love the California Gold!
Thank you! Beautiful coin!
Well, you guys have inspired me to pick up the pace on gold coins! I have a gold five dollar piece unfortunately right now it’s put away and I would have to dig it out. But, I definitely want to add to it. Thank you all for the welcome! I’ve tried to keep up with everyone and I hope I haven’t missed anyone.
Welcome, don’t be a stranger.
Welcome🌞

Hi, Richie. I believe we once met in a Denny’s restaurant in my hometown of Brunswick, GA, if I’ve got my Granstaff brothers straight.
In the ancient category, here’s a Roman gold aureus of Vespasian, struck in 80 AD to commemorate the opening of the Colosseum.
In the medieval/hammered gold category, here’s a goldgulden from Frankfurt, with the 1495 date actually on the coin. Dates on coins didn’t happen very often prior to 1500. Note the medieval-style “4” in the date, which looks like a little curlicue.
In the World category, here’s a bit of modern bling. Interesting that the Brits issued a Mayflower commemorative in 2020 for the 400th anniversary, while the US, to the best of my knowledge, did not.
While we’re doing modern World gold, might as well post my “Bermuda Triangle”. There’s slightly more than an ounce of gold in it, which makes it a rather pricey guitar pick! LOL
OK, OK- I haven’t forgotten that we’re on the US Coins forum here…
@Smudge - that toned quarter eagle is awesome!
Nice! Thank you!
I am honored,
@lordmarcovan, the Holey of Holeys.
Wow! Those are awesome!

Lots of nice gold in the posts of gold coins above.
Here is some gold of another type:
Welcome to the forum!
I've got one of those, too, and it was sold to me by @asheland - @TheRichieCache 's brother.
The TrueViews (which I used to create the template below) came out really dark, for some reason.
OK, I see you did specify "Gold Coin." Also I agree with you that "exploring the history and stories" behind the coin adds to the enjoyment of collecting.
Here are two of mine with a unique history and story. The first is one of the few Carson City Gold Coins that came from the Saddle Ridge Hoard after having been buried for decades and the second is an 1850 piece with a provenance that incorporates history. (1850 was the first year that a twenty dollar gold piece was placed into circulation by the U.S. Government):
Welcome brother of @asheland Terry, @RichieCache. So many helpful and knowledgeable folks here that can guide you along your journey.

That is a beautiful collection. I am glad that you’re better now. Thank you for the welcome!
Wow! Those are great coins! Thank you for the welcome.
Oops, I totally forgot to include the link for the Norris. Of any of the categories that it could be lacking in, history is definitely not one of them.
