Just made my first purchase of ‘25… a true bucket list coin, a CAC’d chain cent…. Probably my only ‘25 purchase!

    Can't wait to see photos!

@DCW will do, looking forward to seeing it in-hand. It’s a bit of a medium olive in the TV pics, hopefully it’s not too dark, but the planchet is nearly unflawed and circulation marks appear to be minimal and in line with the grade. I’ve wanted one for many years and several times in the past when a nice and (relatively) affordable piece has come up I failed to “pull the trigger”, and I wasn’t going to let that happen yet again.
I’ve never had a focus on large cents, but the mystique and history of the chain cent have always called out to me - it’s simply a classic iconic piece of our national heritage IMO.

Could not agree more! It is a dream to own an unmolested chain cent. Good luck in your purchase.

Anyway, the check's in the mail, and the package is on its way, so barring my postman getting stuck in snow drifts it oughta be here in a few days.

I'm quoting myself, which is probably bad form, but I just wanted to share that I think I jinxed my delivery. Got this notice:

Two nicer ones coming soon, a PCGS XF45 at HA Jan 21-22, and an NGC AU53 late Feb/beginning of March also HA. GC has a mediocre PCGS XF40 Sunday.

Finally arrived! My first of ‘25 and it’s a biggie for me! Honestly I don’t have the skill to take photos of this coin with my phone, doesn’t pick up detail so I’ve included only the True View.
S-4 with periods, G-6 with CAC. I’ve always wanted a nice low grade chain….

    Congrats on your new “Chain”.

Thanks @jfriedm56. The history and mystique of the chain cent is unrivaled to me.
Next up is a hunt for a similar (perhaps VG?) ‘93 Wreath cent, it’ll take time but the fun is in the hunt.

One cent pieces for the one a year cent collection I’m building from 1793 to date. I finished the Indian cents at FUN. My first purchase was an 1870 cent in AU-58. cent.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

WOW! A fantastic looking G6 Chain Cent. I have never owned one but that is definitely a buy it now coin. Congratulations.

  • GuzziSportGuzziSport Posts: 79 ✭✭✭✭

Thanks @Coinbert , it’s a bucket list acquisition for sure! I’m not a large cent collector but I’ve decided to work on a PCGS/CAC large cent major type set, I already have a really nice liberty cap and draped bust cent that fits in that pattern - and the draped bust is a PCGS/CAC ‘99! So a nice wreath and coronet are next up.

I was hoping it would be a nice 70-CC half in fine or a common date SLH in AU50.

Turns out it was an Australian Koala bear 1 oz. round.

Man such a tough question for me. ;)

Pretty sure it'll be a CBH. And it'll possibly happen at FUN. Probably a nice coin of a DM I don't have in AU55 or 58 (or maybe even AU53). With some skin, and some color and some character. There will be a lot to pick from, I'm sure ... between the auctions and all of the other stuff happening.

    .
Can I quote my own post? Hmmm. I guess so.

This was the first one. From Melissa and Josh (and Dick Graham) at David Kahn's table at FUN. It was actually one of three purchase, but it was the first one I asked to see, and as soon as I looked at her I was not letting go of this one, no matter how close the vultures like @Pnies20 were circling. :D

“Hey Todd I’m looking for Dave Kahn’s table. Someone told me there’s a few I need to check out. You seen it?”

    “Nope haven’t seen it.”

See Todd 10 minutes later at Kahn’s table with 10 coins under his arm, snarling at anyone that came within 3 feet. It was frightening, really.
