Feedback--Negatives

When looking to bid for coins on ebay I check the seller's feedback. I find myself searching out the negatives and the sellers reply to their negatives. If a coin seller has a few negatives that are old they don't bother me, when a seller continues to pick up a negative here and there, I judge the whole feedback and bid accordingly. How much weight do you put on coin seller's negatives on ebay, and at what point do you not bid on a coin because the seller has negative?

On the other hand, a well written reply indicating a willingness to be reasonable will not discourage me from bidding. In short, 1 negative improperly handled or several will discourage me.

Sellers who leave + feedback as soon as payment is received, open themselves up to BS negs a lot more than sellers who hold feedback until it's left for them.
I'm not saying either way is right, just that it definitely affects the percentage of negs they receive.
<< <i>If they all say he overgrades or they never got their coin or if the seller calls his buyers names I pass. I have no set number that determines when I void the seller but if they have 1,000+ with no negs I know they are doing something right. >>
Can anyone think of a seller that calls his buyers names???

PoodleDroppings, is your writing abilities average for someone from Mississippi? I'd be happy to take up a collection to buy you some of those "Hooked on Phonics" tapes.
Perhaps I should write that in language you'd understand: yo,scribble on da crib be like da juice in da hood, yo yo yo ben-ja-mins in da pocket for da fonics chain gang...
And, I can think of one scumbag seller that gets negs for misrepresenting his coins and screwing with people on returns. Can anyone guess who he is?

i should have payed more attention to this sellers auction description than i did...some sellers are pretty clever with the phrasology in their descriptions by coming across as appearing to be honest but then prove themself to be less than honest by what they send to the buyer...
The "1% rule" seems to work for me...if a seller has 1 or more percent negatives i will tend to avoid...many of those positives, the other 99% or so,are not 'real positives' i suspect...
i've also found it useful to look into what a seller BUYS on ebay...
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.

That is scary. I was looking at some of the coins he was selling a couple months ago.

most of the time you can tell how professional the dealer is by his responses to negs.

if a seller retaliates with a neg because the buyer neg'd him, he won't get my business.
that's where my only neutral came from. a local dealer retaliated with a neutral because i left him one. he intentionally left out important information in the listing and then posted no feedback even though i paid 200% more than something was worth. he waited so he could retaliate.

The retaliation may be warranted. The buyer might have been trying to screw the seller. He might have been demanding a <cough> partial <cough> refund and when the seller refused, negged him.
Also, if a buyer negs a seller without giving the seller a chance to make the situation right, then the buyer deserves to get negged back. I've seen lots of retaliatory negs from sellers who state things like "Buyer never contacted to express dissatisfaction".
even if the buyer's justified in doing it, he can earn more points with me by not.

It's funny. Sometimes I read a thread complaining about a seller and I go to look at the feedback of that seller. I'll find that that seller may have 6-700 positive feedbacks since his/her last negative. Yet, the Member complaining about the seller has only 100 feedback in his history.
Mr.1874, I'm confused by your post. I always leave feedback for the buyer upon receipt of payment. Feedback, to me represents my side of the transaction, not the other party's experience. Conversely, I always leave feedback when I receive the item, unless it is not as expected. If it isn't, I contact the seller before responding and address my complaint in private. If that effort fails, I post a neg.
BTW - As for purchasing, I look not only at any negs, but at the responses to negs. They tell the real story. A well handled complaint gives me great confidence in the seller.
