Oh.... the dead buffalo variety??

A Well-known dealer told this story:
Dealer: Good morning how can I help you?
Caller: Is this the coin collector?
Dealer: um… I am a coin dealer, and I buy and sell rare coins.
Caller: well, I have a coin, and I’d like to know how much it’s worth.
Dealer: Great, what you got?
Caller: It’s a 1983 penny.
Dealer: It’s worth a penny.
Caller: But it’s really old!!
Funny thing is the same person called back the next day asking the same questions! Lol
How do I convince a millennial that 1983 was simply not that long ago?!

I had a few funny contacts from folks over the years. Wish I had wrote them down.
One ask me if I would ship a coin to New York. I said, sure. Never did hear back.
One ask if their check bounces would I still ship and they would pay later. I said I would rather not take a hot check. They said, it's not a hot check, it just won't clear the bank.
One ask if I would take a coin back if they cleaned it. I said I would have to see the coin. Never did hear back.
One guy had won a coin at auction but never paid. He contacted me and said he did not have the money but would still take it if I would sell it to him at half price. I said no and he gave me a negative on Ebay. That was the only neg I ever received.

The next time I get a call like that I'm going to act very excited, whether it is a steel cent, "gold" dollar, etc. offer 5X more than it is worth so I'll get a lot more people calling to sell their coins!

I tipped a waitress with a Presidential dollar , the other day. She looked excited and said she hardly ever sees them. I thought : “hmmmmmm, I should do this more often “ In all the years in a coin shop, I don’t think one person ever called for one , so they get spent / gifted or deposited. One day they will have another presidential dollar. I can’t see it ever ending. See why I think whiskey was made ?

Next time you get a call that starts, "I have a $1000 bill from 1840.....", cut them off and predict it's serial number-#8894- and they will surely respond "How did you know that?" You can then claim to be psychic and they may not be as angry or disappointed with their fake.
I have found a 2005-P buffalo nickel with a rotated die. Maybe your customer is onto something.
