Sent off a small handful of coins to CAC today, including this Washington rattler. I'll post a few threads in advance with a poll. Take a guess at the result, and I'll update the thread when it's back. Post your reasoning, if so inclined.






Edit: the long scratches seen over and near the portrait are all on the holder, not the coin.

    This may seem odd, but why don't you ask CAC on their boards? I did for a coin and in effect, got my answer ("No").

    This almost flawless 54-O graded PCGS VF30. All I can figure is PCGS liked the coin and graded it beyond what its wear indicates. I posted it on CAC's website and asked if it would receive a sticker. CAC said, "Where's the 'E'?" A VF30 should show it. I took that as no sticker without a downgrade. I'm fine with that.

    That was my first thought too. Could always be the pic but looked slightly flat.

    Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.

    There were many rolls of GEM 1940s quarters though that offered brilliant, lustrous surfaces such as the OP's coin.
    I thought though perhaps I was missing something as the above coin doesn't exhibit any of the dipped appearance other coins that have been, do.

    Well I thought I would be the only one to say no. :D I don't like those small marks in the field just in front of the portrait, and I cannot tell but that scratch above the nose would be a no from me. But if that is on the plastic, as it appears there are several other scratches; then it could go green.

    I meant to clarify in my OP (and just added an edit), but those long scratches are all on the holder.

    Right, although I'm thinking a properly executed dip will be pretty tough to detect in pictures, however. Different story when its completely burned.

    Pic looks to be 1/2 stop overexposed. There appears to be some kind of light chatter in front of Washington's chin, above the motto. My experience with CAC is that they rarely sticker dipped coins, unless the dip got rid of junk on the coin and left its surfaces intact. But I haven't submitted much to them.

    I'd prefer straight on shots. There appear to be significant rim hits so I'm inclined to think in-hand it might look different.

    Yes, what look like rim dings are little plastic prongs which are part of the rattler holder design.

    MS65 to MS66 spread on GS: $55 to $80. This type of gold sticker reinforces the "lock upgrade" sentiments on old holder rattlers, etc. with no negatives for their reputation for being high end.
