From a 65 CAC (top) to 66 CAC (bottom). Both fantastic Peace dollars, the 66 is a little cleaner on the cheek and neck, and the 66 is my ideal coin for this issue and bumped me up 5 spots in the set ranking.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
The bright surfaces from wiping on this 1888 bothered me so I purchased this PR61 raw at 2023 FUN. The 1888 proof bedazzled me after standing in line at PCGS and I wishfully graded it as PL but it's a "mishandled" proof, as the Trueview shows. It's my first 19th century proof, I've studied it to figure out what it is, and I like it. It surprises me because though I rarely buy proof coins, I've told myself to never buy proofs lower than PR65 to avoid annoying hairlines and imperfections. This coin is loaded with them. Meanwhile, the 1888 graded F12, and a buyer with more faith in it than I did, worked a good deal for it before the grade broke and was rewarded. Win Win!
Registry vs personal preference. I like both coins but the F02 wins.
Thanks to @PocketChange and his gift, I was able to upgrade from this 1875 S Twenty Cent Piece with a slight rim ding to the gift coin he provided. I liked the old one but the gift coin was of the same color and better quality with no rim dings.

I keep upgrading this one... Here's the Best Bargain Bin Find on a Budget way back when I paid around $3 for this Walking Liberty Half... a few acetone soaks later and she ended up in my 7070 album for many years:
Upgraded with this one recently... I relied on the sellers photos and will likely be upgrading this one in the future but it's not a big priority:
Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;
One more... although technically I had the "upgrade coin" first... I kept the PCGS certified coin in my 7070 Type Set for some time before sending it of the be certified. The VF coin in the Wayte Raymond album was purchased a bit later...

Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;
I just upgraded the 1935 peace dollar in my slider set. I’m excited for this one, the original was purchased without enough due diligence on my part (read it was a midnight purchase).
It should arrive on Thursday!

I have collected the early half dimes for many years. When I saw one in MS-64, I had to make a trade.
I traded this one and a fair sized check
For this one. The coin I traded was in an NGC EF-40 holder when I let it go.

A merciful upgrade. Thanks to @Southcounty for alerting me to this coin. This is the sixth WB-5 that I'm aware of. It's also fairly nice looking for an 1874-S. I submitted it to PCGS at FUN, and the grade is going to be posted any minute now.
1874-S WB-5 (R7)
.
The Upgrade for the above WB-5.
I have a number of duplicates but in almost all cases, it was not for wanting an upgrade. For years I would grab coins that I liked regardless of their date and grade, and that would generate duplicates. I also collect rare die marriages and lately have been throwing money at R7 DMs, some of which were MS coins. This generates duplicates with large grade disparity. Finally, I would forget what I have in my Dansco collection and grab a duplicate by mistake.

I have a set of Morgans that I really wanted to replace last year. An 1886 and 1887 both MS63. Both were (and the replacements still are) very common coins but I’m glad to have the new ones.

One more... I bought this 1829 N-7 because the reverse die cracks were "all there" and even I could attribute it!

Then bought this one...

@rnkmyer1 Nice substantial upgrades from already nice coins! Now they really pop!
cool thread, I would end up keeping a lot of those duplicates
