The "Coins Only" Thread
I'll admit - I am absolutely SICK of all of the talk of CACG and grading standards and the like. It seems like it's been a while since we've had a good old fashioned post any coin you like thread, with the exception of the wonderful "post the most beautiful coin" thread that's been up for a bit. There was a day here where that was pretty much the only thread on the front page that was all coins and no debating.
Let's create a thread of just coins and talk relating to them. No grading discussion or the like please!

Not exactly what you were asking for, I'm sure, but hopefully entertaining enough to be welcome.
This is the biggest "coin" I've got, athough of course technically it's a medal. But, hey - it's round, it's beautiful, and it's big enough that I have to be wary of dropping it, since the required foot-save might cost me a broken toe! Peace dollar for scale:

Thank you @FlyingAl I have been thinking the same way. I have even backed away some from the forum because of it.

I've always liked the look of double mint set toning when it's not dark, splotchy or flat out ugly.
I forget who shot these for me about 10+ years ago... Bob Campbell maybe? Airplanenut?
Any way... it's still sitting in an original 57 mint set and thankfully still looks much the same.

This ones "big" because it's 102mm and "big" because it's also sort of rare, probably numbering between 50-100 extant.
This ones a little smaller at 91mm.
This ones smaller still at 27mm, but large in its visual appeal with reflective fields.
This last one just has "big" color.

I made the same mistake, but hopefully Al is not too upset about it. When I saw the photo you posted I started thinking:
A) Does it qualify as an actual coin - meaning "could it be spent as money?"
How do you pick it up without shaving away $Thousands in value since 99.99% gold is pretty soft - visions of a forklift generously padded with red velvet pillows?2 -

Sounds like a great idea.I have these at PCGS getting graded any day now.
1934 DDO # 2 - You can easily see the spread in the 9&3 and E in Liberty.
Next is a 1931 DDR # 1 The EPU is fat at the bottom of the letters as well as the wheat stems.

I really like the 1913 Buffalo posted by Nic... It captures so much of what has been lost. Look at the die polish and the workmanship present which is why I even choose to collect. Some may look at this and ask why is this significant. And it is in part because it was near the height of the so-called Arts and Crafts movement and the Buffalo Nickel captures the spirit in spades.

I'm going to have to disappoint you - I just watched this video about the making of that One Tonne Australian coin, and it would clearly have to be given a details grade due to cleaning, polishing, and burnishing (see 0:15 through 0:25 on the video!):

A mere penny! This is an example of Wyon's best die work and IMHO shows the care taken on such a coin (Proof 1853 Penny, Very Low Mintage as well)
