It presently has trees growing on it. The ship itself transported barrels of petroleum products up and down the West Coast for Standard Oil for decades until it ended up in Alaska after being acquired by Peter Pan Seafoods who used it as a floating cannery.

    From a photo taken of it as viewed from the shore it does not appear to be the same ship so the search goes on.

    As a kid the family would go here every few years. It is a steep climb up, a long trip to the lake shore and then back to the top of the sand dune, The fun part is either running down or just rolling down to the bottom. A fun day at the dunes too.

    For this Friday - Yesterday's Celebration of the Japanese Emperor's Birthday:

    At yesterday's celebratory event the video screens were showing the new Emperor Naruhito's Entronement that took place on October 22, 2019. Ironically, I was in Japan teaching a living history class on that day as together we teachers and Japanese students watched on live TV the very scenes that were being replayed now here in the United States over four years later.

    Photos taken the first week of March one year ago:

    Some of the earliest blooming Sakura near Tokyo can be seen in Atami enroute to Hakone. (Atami is only 30 minutes from Tokyo by the Shinkansen Bullet Train.)

    The Pirate Ship on Hakone's Lake Ashi and overlooking the lake at dusk.

    Mount Fuji as seen from Hakone. (Hakone is located southwest of Tokyo approximately 80 miles distant.)
