My grade would be MS-61. It don't see much, if any wear, but it's got a large number of light bag marks.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
A sucker for all old gold here. Have the follow the crowd on this one, MS61 or MS62. Don't see the hairlines, just typical bag marks many/most of these have.
I am going to rock the boat and say 58, field friction is wear. It could be an artifact of the picture but it isn’t how I interpret the photo. I see a shinny chin, neck point and mint surface textures rubbed different, classic AU & Nice coin
Here is a 61 of the same date and while just as baggy it has consistent luster across the surface

Of course, a scratch is a scratch, but it’s a matter of how severe the scratch is. And I’ve seen (I don’t know how many) hundreds of straight-graded gold coins with scratches as bad as or worse than that. Could I be wrong about this one? Sure, but I’d be surprised.

I've never been a gold collector, but would I be wrong to think that gold being a soft metal, might have more scratches than other Uncirculated coins, even silver? As stated, have never dealt with gold, so I'll not gtg as I wouldn't be interested in a coin with that many scratches, even gold. Just wonder that graders might give uncirculated gold coins a bit of help as to scratches and their effect on grade. The enlargement wouldn't allow much to be missed. Just wondered, not saying that gold should be given a bump in grade for marks.

I like the color- but the slight hairlines/bagmarks prevent a higher grade- 62 tops with 61 being equally probable

I did not think of or even consider the holder in terms of the PCGS generation. asheland might be right in that we all might be surprised if it failed to grade 61.

Thanks to everyone for looking at this coin; the comments and guesses were spot-on. This coin picked up a gold CAC sticker, and sometimes, it is hard to discern the sticker color in images. The coin reveals an attractive luster in hand.

MS61. I'm not seeing any wear but I am seeing a lot of small marks/hairlines, especially on the obverse.
MS-62. Nice luster, but a few too many hits to warrant a choice grade.
MS61 Too many bag marks for a higher grade. Nice way to buy some gold.

Nice piece, I would not be surprised to see it in a 63 perhaps the detractions are much more magnified.

If it is an older holder that makes me think 50 or 55 as they were brutal on circulated gold back in the day but I stand by a it as a modern 58

Actually, no, it was in reference to all the details grades, and or pluses, which both didn’t exist back then.
Back then it was a body bag or a regular grade without a plus.
