I always thinks of what TDN says, PCGS doesn’t straight grade chop marks, they grade them details with a chop mark designation. You can’t use them in a normal set in the registry and they have their own Cert number. Not sure why people get their panties in a bunch over a numerical grade.

One actually can use chopped coins in the regular sets. You may have to ask the set registry people to enable the certain number but they (the admins) view them as a variety.

@MFeld If you can do something about these....the first is not a die match for a 75-P 1/1 and the second has a very clearly visible S mint mark.

On the Heritage website it notes: These coins are not graded yet. It appears to be some type of pre advertising while the coins are getting graded.

No, they are just graded as "Genuine" and won't receive a grade, numeric or otherwise. This is inexpensive bulk grading which is what leads to these issues. This is not the first time this has occurred with the no grade NGC holders and it's not limited to only HA.

EDIT: From a couple of weeks ago at SB, here is a 74-"P" in the same style ungraded NGC holder with a visible S mint mark.

There have been misattributed s mint coins in P holders since the very beginning. Also seen a fair about of damage in chop holders. I made a 75p chop mark for a friend that the punches clearly were not chops. Sent it in with a few other coins a Shazam it came back in a strait graded chop mark holder. Wins and losses in the grading game. Here is my fav chop trade I ever owned (since sold) and two other stragglers from my old set.

I've seen one now, confirmed to be 75P with chopmarks. It's a 1/1 in a PCGS F or VF details holder. But after looking for over a decade, that's still the only one.

A quick comment. Long age, chops were considered damaged coins. Eventually the grading services put them into detail holders. Today they are graded as normal coins with the notation "Chopped," "Choped," Chops,"or "Chop Marked." If they are in a detailed slab, there were other problems.

I can shed some light on the pedigree of that particular 77-S: That coin comes from the Legend Chopmarked Trade Dollar Collection that I purchased from @TDN back in 2017. I kept about half of Bruce's collection and incorporated those coins into my collection. Those that I did not keep I sold; this one was sold to @OriginalDan, also I think in 2017. Not sure where Bruce acquired it or where it has been since I sold it to Dan. It's a beautiful coin.

I purchased it from Dan shortly after the meetup of chopmark enthusiasts in Alexandria a few years back (obviously after 2017!). Saw some amazing coins there! I really like this coin.
