Just wanted to give every one an opportunity to say THANKS to all the VETERANS AND THE FAMILIES THAT HAVE LOST LOVED ONES that served in the US Armed Forces.

I was presented with these pieces of art while attending a Veterans Day celebration at a local Elementary School a few years ago.

You just never know what kids will say or write
Ha Ha. I plan to keep these items as long as I LIVE.
This is my shadow box from my time in the US Navy and US Air Foce.

    Yes, thank you veterans. I am too much of a loose cannon to have been much use in the military. Here is a set the mint issued for the young collectors in 1993 for the 50th anniversary of World War II.




    Here are some examples of the real thing.


    I have all of the others, if anyone is interested. These medals were given to everyone who participated in World War II.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    USN spent 2 years in Bermuda 1974….someone had to do it. 2X6 program, 2 active 6 reserves. I was a stupid kid getting high all the time. I had to get away and joined. First day in Bermuda the officer on duty was taking me to the barracks and I could see from a distance the building glowed blue out the windows, black lights. As soon as I walked in the door the entire building reeked of pot. So much for getting away.

    I have been trying to put together plaques for my grandfathers (4 of them, 1 landed at Utah Beach during D-Day, but was lucky enough to come home, albeit blind in one eye and shrapnel in the back of his head.). The hard part is getting the 214's.

    I have nothing but admiration and respect for all Veterans. I had the extreme honor of meeting a WWll Veteran and I was simply in awe of this gentleman whom I will never forget Thank you all for your service to this great country

    Part of my James Earle Fraser (Buffalo Nickel designer) collection, this original World War I Victory Medal fits the bill I think.

    Big thanks to all our veterans.
    Glad @JWP has recovered from his death.
    My son will be singing his heart out Thursday afternoon in a Veteran's Day concert (recital? thingy) at school and I expect it to be as heartfelt and adorable as the artwork above.

    Mowed the yard of a WWII Air Force fighter for a number of years, didn't know until I sat there at his funeral and watched a slide show of his life. Been in his house many times, never having seen anything like medals, pictures that would have said otherwise. He never ever said anything about having served to me. The last time he had me in his house, he informed me that his doctor gave him about one week to live. And giving instructions to continue maintaining his yard b/c his soulmate would continue to live there for a while. He was 93.
    I do know of another Air Force fighter and in the same neighborhood. But he still push mows his yard last I heard and he's 96-7 years old. A couple years ago he was in the news on tv receiving an award they forgot to give him. I need to check up on him again. I've let him know numerous times I'd do it for free but he keeps turning me down.
    I should add, my daughter recently took part in flying with some veterans to Washington DC.

    Twobitcollector I also was also attached to a Honest John unit. First batallion 31st Arty. Honest John Batallion. My job survay so the boys can launch and hit their target. Could be wet, cold, and spookey on top of those mountains and valley's at night!!!

    I appreciate the kind sentiments. My 2 tours in Nam were the adventure of my lifetime. The PTSD not so much but my care by the VA is comprehensive and excellent. No regrets. Peace Roy

    My grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He didn't talk about it much if ever, but he was also a collector. He collected coins among other things, and he is where I got the collecting gene because no one else in my family collects anything.

    I have nothing but the highest admiration and respect for our Veterans who served our country try. They have kept us safe from issues inside and outside of our borders. Now more than ever its a dangerous job.

    Thanks for all the positive comments and especially to those who have served. It often feels as though fewer Americans understand the value of public service and the importance of a strong national defense. I am heartened to know there are still many people who appreciate the service and sacrifices of veterans and their families. 🇺🇸
