5 years ago today

crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,237 ✭✭✭✭✭

5 years ago today my home was burned to the ground by the Campfire in Paradise.
My good friend Jim B. Right here on the forum set up a go fund me in my name. This forum generated 10k to help us recover and it will NEVER be forgotten. I am eternally grateful to you coin brothers and sisters. All of our love to you all.
Joe and family❤️❤️

This post is both heart wrenching and heartwarming. Like @gumby1234 , I am very glad you are okay.

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

I saw a segment on the news this morning marking the anniversary. I thought of you when I saw it. What a horrific event to go through, but you came out of it stronger. 👍

Glad you have come back from the fire and are doing well.

Forumites stepped up for you and your family, quite admirably.

    Good people around here.

Are you planning on rebuilding in Paradise? I hear those that are seem to be having trouble getting home insurance and that insurers have backed out, is that true?
Also, was wondering if the heat "toned" any of your coins....

It's a much larger swath in the area that cannot get home insurance anymore. There is a separate state sponsored plan because there are zero other carriers but (I'm pretty sure) the rates are exorbitant.

I still recall the photos of the area. Just piles of ash and debris with an occassional safe standing above it all. And the residents weren't allowed to return to retrieve their stuff. :/

As a Reno resident I remember the fire well. As they say, “it’s not if, but when.” I sincerely pray that we are all better prepared by then.

I always think of your tragedy to this day when I see that special label that Pcgs created for you and your coins.
Glad time has eased some of your pain.
Your collections still leave me in awe.

As both a collector and a wildland firefighter I remember when you went through this. I was not on the Paradise Fire but I've been on assignment on the Mendocino Nat'l Forest as well as the Umpqua N.F. and have seen the devastation up close and personal. So glad you've come through this unharmed. Wishing you the best.

    Joe,
Just wanted to add, your Walker is as beautiful as can be and with such gorgeous toning. So glad you all made it out. Take care my friend and we wish your family the best.

Just a little before my time here. I didn't realize you went through this disaster. The pictures of the loss are disturbing. The fact your family was unharmed and the openness and generosity of the forum members and PCGS are all bright spots. Stay well in your new home.
