5 years ago today my home was burned to the ground by the Campfire in Paradise.
My good friend Jim B. Right here on the forum set up a go fund me in my name. This forum generated 10k to help us recover and it will NEVER be forgotten. I am eternally grateful to you coin brothers and sisters. All of our love to you all.
Joe and family❤️❤️

Ive been here for 2 years now. That must have been a horrible experience Joe. Luckily you weren't harmed.

This post is both heart wrenching and heartwarming. Like @gumby1234 , I am very glad you are okay.
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
I remember it well. The forum really came together for a good cause.
Those photos are still fresh in my memory, a very sad day for you Joe and many others.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I saw a segment on the news this morning marking the anniversary. I thought of you when I saw it. What a horrific event to go through, but you came out of it stronger. 👍

Glad you have come back from the fire and are doing well.
Forumites stepped up for you and your family, quite admirably.
Good people around here.
Seems like yesterday....
Glad everything turned out well in the end.

I wasn't on the forum 5 years ago but glad you survived that ordeal. I remember watching about the fire on the news channels and can't belive that was already 5 years ago. Time is a flyin'.

It was a time in my life I will never forget but will alway remember the love and kindness I found with my friends and some I’ve never met before.
From the bottom of my heart I say thank you to all❤️

So very happy you've been with us these 5 years. Wouldn't be the same w/o ya.

Later, Paul.
Here are a few.
One of my best memories of the forum.
Thank You for sharing the story again.
I love the slabs.
Are you planning on rebuilding in Paradise? I hear those that are seem to be having trouble getting home insurance and that insurers have backed out, is that true?
Also, was wondering if the heat "toned" any of your coins....
bob
vegas baby!
So glad you and your families made it out safely. I remember your trials well.
It's a much larger swath in the area that cannot get home insurance anymore. There is a separate state sponsored plan because there are zero other carriers but (I'm pretty sure) the rates are exorbitant.
I still recall the photos of the area. Just piles of ash and debris with an occassional safe standing above it all. And the residents weren't allowed to return to retrieve their stuff.
its a beautiful thing on the new slabs
As a Reno resident I remember the fire well. As they say, “it’s not if, but when.” I sincerely pray that we are all better prepared by then.

We live in Chico now. It’s down the hill from Paradise out of wildfire country. We still own the property up there but at this point in time we have no plans on rebuilding.
Thanks
I remember that well, I’m glad everything worked out OK. 👍

I always think of your tragedy to this day when I see that special label that Pcgs created for you and your coins.
Glad time has eased some of your pain.
Your collections still leave me in awe.
Here is to never having to walk down that road again.🙏

Another one from the CHD collection!
As both a collector and a wildland firefighter I remember when you went through this. I was not on the Paradise Fire but I've been on assignment on the Mendocino Nat'l Forest as well as the Umpqua N.F. and have seen the devastation up close and personal. So glad you've come through this unharmed. Wishing you the best.
Joe,
Just wanted to add, your Walker is as beautiful as can be and with such gorgeous toning. So glad you all made it out. Take care my friend and we wish your family the best.

@Tom147 thanks for the work you do.
It’s a hard job when the fires are raging

I remember that day and your posts from back then. We have been sending positive vibes your way on your recovery. PCGS really stepped up to the plate for you which was fantastic. Cheers.

Just a little before my time here. I didn't realize you went through this disaster. The pictures of the loss are disturbing. The fact your family was unharmed and the openness and generosity of the forum members and PCGS are all bright spots. Stay well in your new home.

I love the specialized PCGS holder showing a crazy hound dog leaping off a cliff at a passing eagle.

Thank God you did not have the same fate as your coins Joe.
PCGS did a wonderful job of restoring those coins. KUDOS to them.
I have a couple of them.
Wow has it really been 5 years? I remember your story very well Joe and happy your hear to tell the story
