I've had more than one full-time dealer (and most folks on this board would recognize the name of one or more of them) beg me to sell this coin to them in its current EF45 holder as they have said they would dip off the black crud from the surfaces and shoot for an AU53 upon regrade. Not happening!

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
I don't think I've ever had the need to soak a coin in acetone for more then a minute or two.
It's probably more of a really dark brown, but still ...
