After 25 years, I bought my first Carson City coin

In all my time collecting, I’ve never owned a Carson City coin, despite visiting the mint & museum 20 years ago. As a type collector, CCs have always been in the “unnecessary expense” category, until I embarked on my 20c set.
This lovely Nevada-born lady—graded MS64—arrived this week, and I just took my own photos. The ‘75-CC is the toughest of the circulating issues (besides the ultra-rare ‘76-CC), and I like this example for a few reasons:
• well-struck for this issue (many have weakness on eagle’s wing & head and/or obverse shield & stars)
• both lustrous and toned, with nice originality & character
• CAC-approved, CAC pop 16 in 64 with just 21 higher
• price roughly triples in 65 so this is the “value grade”
Mintage was 133,290, which is more than 3x the Philly coin of the same year, but this issue is more popular as it's required for any CC enthusiast doing a denomination set. I love how far apart the mintmark letters are! (C—C)

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
That is a really nice 1875-CC double dime. It beats my example by a wide margin. It has original surfaces AND is well struck. Many of these coins are poorly struck on the upper part of the eagle’s left wing and the corresponding area on Ms. Liberty’s shield.

The 1875-77 CC dimes are abundant and very affordable in lower grades, but of course if you don't collect seated dimes they would qualify as an "unnecessary expense".
Nice type coin. If you ever get tired of it, there's a market that will swoop it up, anytime.

Bill, I’m glad she earns your approval as I trust your eye and expertise in this series. The eagle’s strike can be quite weak, as you said, and I wasn’t sure if I’d find an example that was “all there” until I saw this one. I’m trying to be patient and only buy each coin in this set once, and I think I succeeded on this one, at least.
