I have heard some dealers get special treatment (with a certain grading firm) in they are allowed to request a specific grade on a crossover they submit that is above the encapsulated grade, unlike us regular collectors who can't.

where is the smart money going at the moment? Seems like there are so many transactions between dealers prior to shows that the dealers already have a good sense of what is trading well and what showed little to no interest. For Joe Public who comes in off the street, that would be good knowledge to have going into a show.

You are both correct. I have really reached to buy something that I knew was unique, when it came up, and I wasn’t even ready. But also, as per what @MFeld said, I have passed on a lot of things, when I knew they weren’t satisfactory, even though I was anxious to fill that hole. Slow and steady will always win the race.

Surprised I must be the only one here who feels this way but my local shop owner is REALLY fair and honest. We talk all the time and I think he is always truthful...

I'm fairly confident that Mark intended everyone to ask a hypothetical question of dealers in general or maybe even a specific dealer that someone had in mind. I don't think the intent was for you to answer on behalf of every dealer in existence
And to answer your question about why some people refuse to learn anything (despite your question probably being rhetorical), perhaps some of us are willing to learn things if we trust the source trying to impart that knowledge/wisdom.
