Finished my WLH set!

Nearly twenty years after I started down this road (purchase receipts date back at least to 2006), I purchased the final piece to the puzzle, the 21-D below. A big thanks to all those that encouraged and advised along the way, with a particular shout out to @Walkerguy21D, who really helped formulate how I wanted the set to shape up years ago.

The 21-D was always going to be a price challenge on several fronts. At one level, most of the set is raw, and over the years I've gotten less enthusiastic about making pricy slabbed coins free again. At another level, I'd probably never pony up the money I'd need for a matchy to rest-of-set VF or at least a F that looked VF. Even at the VG level I'm still not sure I'll bust it out, as a handful of other better dates are still slabbed. Still, no matter the composition of album vs slabbed, I still feel a sense of accomplishment and completion.

So what next? The album set right now is in three 'tiers', MS for the later dates, VF of the mid dates, and F or so for the early dates. One of my side sets was a MS short set, which morphed into doing the mid-dates in AU to MS, so perhaps I'll do some swapping across the albums, to upgrade the complete set. Or not, since the main album sits in a SDB and it becomes a pricey collection to leave laying around the house. All decisions for anther day. For now I'll celebrate completing what for me is a significant series, one that I have loved since boyhood!

Looks like a really nice coin with great color and a clear date. Congratulations on the set and the coin.

The Walkers sure are beautiful, aren’t they? ;)

Looks like you found an original example that is graded appropriately for a VG coin.

Completing a Walker set, at any level , is a huge accomplishment!

    Congratulations!

I finished my circulated album set a couple years back with the same final coin.
It felt good to be finished at the time, it took me a long time just to fill all those dates & mint marks. Sadly, I don't think I've even looked at the album after closing the book for the final time.

Congrats on finishing that project. The 21D looks great.

Congrats and great looking 21D. But you'll soon find you're never done with a set. Next you'll be looking and admiring the set and realize you should probably upgrade that one, then another, and another, lol. I do it with my WLHs and Morgan sets.
@Meltdown your probably lucky not looking at your finished set.

Great advice from @Walkerguy21D ...and the last coin added is 21D. That's not suspicious at all! ;) Great looking set! <3

I didn’t even know you were working on a WLH set, Alain! I’d love to see the rest of your set. You always have such a good eye for quality material.

Congrats on finishing the Walkers set. Your 21-D is a nice looking circulated coin.

Sounds like one terrific set, and that's an awesome final piece. Congrats! Well done.

    Congrats!

But a caveat: I find that sets really don't want to be "completed," since there's always a better copy of most/all of the coins out there....

Nice accomplishment with a great series.

  • Love Walkers but cannot afford to buy the higher grades that I would want. Just sold my Standing liberty set in Au grades except for the three high price ones. i turned to gold and currency and types sets. Nice 21-d there pal.
