I have several AU58 coins that I find compelling, but the OP demanded my "single best" so despite that I've posted this coin several times, this is it.

Wow, me either! I can’t think on a nicer Type 1 DE in AU58 that I have ever seen!
If you had did a GTG I would have said MS63-63+ and I have a sneaking suspicion that I wouldn’t have been alone!😉
Since I am a DE fan, you win the award for best AU58 in this thread. Spectacular!👍

My most valuable AU58 (out of 4 in my collection), or coin for that matter, but even with a CAC sticker, it is not among my favorites and is somewhat out of place in my collection. It's good "Everyman bait" for the future, though.

I've got fifteen AU58s in my EVERYMAN INDIAN HEAD $2-1/2 GOLD (1908-1929) Registry Set, but this AU 58+ is the tops...

This looks almost proof like. Very shiny, and has great, clean fields.

There are so many amazing AU58s in this thread. Thanks for the comments on the 1861 $20.
As mentioned, it has semi-prooflike surfaces, and the strike is incredible. I am not exactly sure why it graded 58, but the surfaces could have been gently wiped long ago, though not enough for CAC to deny a sticker.

Currently this is the only 58 I own. Doesn't have a ton of numismatic value, but it belonged to my dad, and it's the only coin I can say with absolute certainty that I will never sell. Also, as I was packing it up for submission, I very much enjoyed my three year old daughter's protests that "Grandpa's dime" shouldn't go in the mail, but should go in her piggy bank instead.
