A couple of CBH newps that I was most fortunate to pick up recently

drddmdrddm Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭✭✭

Back in January I befriended the owner of the amazing Prism Collection which was displayed at the ANA this past week in Pittsburgh, and will be sold at the upcoming January FUN show by Eye Appealing Coins.

I guess it was perfect timing as I got first shot at picking out five of his CBH’s before he got his set regraded/stickered and consigned to EAC.

I had always wanted to have one of Dale Friend’s incredible bust halves in my set prior to his passing when he sold them a few years back through Heritage and Legend, but I wasn’t fortunate enough to grab one when they were auctioned off. So I’m sure you can imagine how I elated was to actually pick up two of them at one time.

Thank you to the owner of the Prism Collection for this most fortunate opportunity.

1814/3 CBH PCGS MS 63+ CAC (Ex. Friend)

1818/7 Large 8 CBH PCGS MS 63+ CAC (Ex. Friend)

Saw them in hand and the pretty trueviews don’t even do them justice. Just unbelievable.

Dave, you lucked out in a major way. Having first shot at a nice coin can be the difference between buying it, and having it go through too many other hands, or having it wind up in auction as an ego contest between two bidders and as a result, the coin is no longer affordable to you.

I also wanted one of Dale's CBHs, but he wanted more for it than I could afford. The silver lining is that he told me to get a bettter date in MS 64 than a generic MS 65, as he thought it was a better value. He was right, and that's what I did.

Congrats again on those two beautiful CBHs. If you waited until FUN, they probably would not have been affordable.

    Thank you everyone!
I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to have these beauties in my collection.

I admired Dale’s 1814/3 for many, many years and never thought I’d have a shot at it. Being offered his beautiful 1818/7 as well was the icing on the cake for me.

And you are absolutely right @Elcontador….if I wasn’t offered first shot at them and these two coins were being sold at FUN I would likely not own them ever.

Would love to see the MS64 you wound up getting.
