I’d never call 300 a lot when comes to a well known piece of history. This coin is on my list and no one here is asking what it is.

I think it’s worth owning at the mentioned price.

I agree with @BillJones . I had a similar situation happen to me. Thank God; I didn’t pull the trigger, on the inferior Coin. Wound up with a much better example for just a little more money only a few short days later. Patience is a virtue. The coin in the OP has a terrible strike. I am certain there are better ones out there.

Im with @BillJones. There was a reason this one went cheap 4 years ago in auction, and looking at the overall market trends for this issue, 75% price appreciation in 4 years doesn't seem appropriate. They don't appear to be exceedingly scarce, and imo I think you can do better, even if it means spending 4-4500 for one with a better strike.

Yeah, should have deleted all but the gold part. But the Brasher’s not silver and that was the direction I was going with my wish list.

Good advise that I try to live by in this hobby. Do it right the first time. However, busting the budget lately is happening too often. Lol

The small Pine Tree shillings were struck on a screw press and were generally well made. You can do better than this. You could plunk down the $3,500 and find out a week later that a better struck one was available for $4,500.

I had that happen to me this week. I got frustrated and plunked down $900 for an 1823 large cent in VF-20. As soon as I get home, I find that a dealer I know has a much better one in a VF-30 for $1,800. Too late! The commitment has been made. The better coin sold in a couple of days as well it should have.

I had that happen with a 1793 half cent. I had my guy sell the first one I bought and ate the loss and bought the better, more expensive, 2nd one.
Why keep one you won't remember fondly?

I wouldn't pay nearly double from what it sold for in 2019 for this particular coin. A better deal/coin will eventually come along.

I'd wait for one with a better strike.

I prefer the large planchet coin.
