1943 S Jefferson Nickel: Guess the Grade GRADE REVEALED.

The first set I ever completed was a set of silver Jefferson Nickels. I ended up selling most of them to purchase some of my Walking Liberty short set. But I kept a couple, including this one. I like the gentle original color and the lack of marks. I would love to hear what you guys think it graded.

I don't see any reason that it couldn't be a 66.

My first thought was also 66 without FS.
I collect world proof sets, coins featuring composers, mid-20th century U.S. proof coins, U.S. type coins, and whatever else I want.

Many were very close but missed it by a point. The only one that got this one right was @OldIndianNutKase . That being said the difference between a 66/66+ and this coins grade (67) is very little. Obviously this coin did not grade FS with the weakness under the third pillar/bottom step. As always I am interested in hearing anyone's opinion as to why this coin should or shouldn't be graded as MS67.

There are a couple good size nicks that I thought would keep it from 67. One is in the hair and another on reverse on one of the pillars.

I could see that being the case. Part of my abandoning the Jefferson series (at least in the very high grades) was my struggle to grade them. Even the higher graded pieces I see I feel have more marks than they should to merit their grade.

I think the toning may have got it over. There's superb eye-movement through that coin. I think it would even CAC at 67.
This doesn't surprise me. I felt like it had a reasonable shot at 67 (I guessed 66+), but I wasn't convinced. Like you mentioned, I also have a hard time the determining the Superb Gem's for this series, especially from images.
