Why do "journalists" put out such inaccurate information when it is easy to find the truth?

Seriously, this is rampant these days, but for it to his this hobby, be this simple, and still be inaccurate, is just sad (in place of a word that might get censored otherwise).
Just a few things that this article really messes up:
1) Calling a dime's weight the same as a half dollar's weight (ummm....it's kind of obvious it isn't the same)
2) Saying 1971 is last year of silver minted Kennedys (and not 1970)
3) Calling 1965/1966/1967 90% silver....(then later stating the '1966 are not made of silver')
4) Saying a "1964 Kennedy half dollar is generally only worth face value"
5) Saying they haven't been minted since 2004
There are more, that I won't bother listing, but I will part with this quote:

- Gotta love encouraging people to scratch their coins to see if they leave silver marks...in an article about the value of the coin (like the scratch wouldn't potentially lower the value).

Well, if they google it, it must be true. Then there is the news anchor that feels that they don't need to check anything because they know the truth. I guess they got it from google too.

Laziness. More clicks when it's wrong. The narrative is all that counts. Was in a rush when I wrote the story. I was meeting someone at the beach and honestly didn't have time to check the facts. ?????? Why speculate when you can guess?

Most journalists and journalism are not.
I think a few half dollars in 1971 were erroneously struck in 40% silver, so maybe that's why they said they made silver halves that year. However, I still wouldn't say that 1971 half dollars are silver, because the vast majority of them are not.
I collect world proof sets, coins featuring composers, mid-20th century U.S. proof coins, U.S. type coins, and whatever else I want.
It speaks volumes about the education system of the nation and the dummying down of our culture. Oh, I add IMHO.
