My IHC Article Was Published - Longacre Ledger

Many of you may have read much of this information in a thread I wrote on this forum several months ago when I "completed" my Unique Indian Head Cent Set. I used that as the basis for a 2-1/4 page article I submitted to the Longacre Ledger, the three times a year Journal of the Fly-In Club. They just published it, and they added an additional 4-3/4 pages of data and some photos of my coins.

For those that noticed a recent thread about me having been chosen by PCGS to be in their one page "Collector Spotlight" in their current May-June issue of the PCGS Market Report, you could say my Publicist is hard at work, lol.

My apologies for my unprofessional photos of the following pages. Hopefully those interested can still read them.

Thank you Steve for your dedication to the IHC series. Your collection journey seems to be very precise involving both CAC and Photo Seal approval. Certainly this gives you comfort in the quality of your collection.

I took another approach by collecting only the proof IHC's as they always have superior characteristics as to strike and surface distractions. And in BN and RB they demonstrate beautiful toning. But your set is very well matched as to color and quality. I am surprised you are only on 6 on the registry. But the top sets get lots of points for CAM/DCAM which are in rare territory.

But again, we really appreciate your sharing of your efforts and the excellent results that you achieved.

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I fully agree that Proof IHC’s have great eye appeal with the factors you mention.

By the way, as I very recently pointed out in another thread, a good friend (Working for Pennies) just posted his IHC collection that he’s been putting together for well over a decade, and he’s current #4, so I’m #7, but that’s perfectly ok. For financial reasons, my collection has no 67’s and is “only” 65% Red, so like with my other sets, I’m happy regardless of where I stand in the rankings. I only buy coins in the grade I’m comfortable with, never stretching just for the purpose of rising in rank. I also do my best to avoid buying upgrades unless the coin has nicer eye appeal than the coin it replaces.

Doug - While not all have True View's, there are at least three other high quality photos available for viewing of each coin - one slab shot, and two closeups - obverse and reverse. Here's a hotlink to my viewable set. Just click on any photo, and it will allow you to easily see the photos.

For those that don't know, Doug's sets (Flying Eagles, Indians, and others) are OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!!!!
