Buffalo Nickel grade help. 1925 S

A little input would be appreciated on this 1925 S Buffalo. The obverse has a weak 1 in the date and the feathers are mush plus the TY in Liberty is weak leading me to think VF. The reverse has a nice horn, hair on the head and somewhat of a tail for an XF? So would this one be a VF30 or an XF40?

    1925-S comes super-weakly struck most of the time. The date and Liberty are relatively well-defined on yours. I’d call it an XF.

    Very unusual Mint Mark looks like a dollar sign, but I would be in the VF35 ballpark also.

    A solid VF30. An excellent choice for an album coin.

    VF 35.

    I'm a tough grader and this is the kind of coin that will often retail as an XF. Even though it's a remarkably well made coin for the date I expect more meat on them than this for XF. Even VF 30 is in range.

    Most collectors will find this coin very desirable in any grade.

    I like it as an XF coin. I suppose one can debate the technical details, but this coin has a great strike and early die state, when taken in totality, makes the higher grade an easy call in my book. I’ve long felt this date is one of the most challenging to find with anything approaching eye appeal - this one is a winner.

    This would likely make a VF35.... Not sure what is going on with the mint mark... that would need closer scrutiny. Cheers, RickO

    I would call it 35 or 40 if it didn't have the hits on the '2' in the date. Maybe I'm being overly gnarly but that's the way I see it. VF30.

    Full Horn, tail shows on the hip, strong rim all around. typical die clash. The date is weak on all 1925 Buffs from when the die was made.

    XF-40

    1925-S is one of the worst Buffalos for strike, being coined at a time of so-so overall quality coins.

    The reverse says 40, but I think the obverse holds it back... I'm in the 35 camp...

    This date as most of you know is extremely hard to find with a decent strike.

    I agree with the VF35 group. The full horn is tough to find with this date/MM.

    Vf30 to me too. Too much wear for higher grades. Send it in, this one will be interesting to see the finish line.

    If anything it's gold that had the best strike during the 1920s. Not Buffalo Nickels.

    My opinion VF but would likely slab XF with today's looser grading.
