    VF30 - only because nobody else said it. I suspect it's actually higher but I can't grade gold very well at all.

    Well.. was going to guess 45.... However, I would not argue with the 40.... I like gold coins, and tend to see them favorably.... Cheers, RickO

    So... this begs a CAC question that I am reluctant to ask but I am anyway.

    If CAC thought it was worthy of a 45, would it have received a gold bean instead of a green?

    That may read as a lame question, but the difference remains within the EF spectrum which may or may not warrant a color change

    edited to add-- There are many flat strikes for this series and 1854 is one of those dates. I still like it as a 45

    I think so? Gold bean would mean they thought it worthy of a higher grade, right? I’ve never submitted to CAC, though I have a few green beans in my collection now. (No gold beans.)

    Personally, I’m content with it as a 40, but a lot of the commentary here has been pleasing. I paid rather stiffly for the coin but don’t regret that much. I did what I had to do to win it.

    I was at 40, with maybe a shot at 45, and excellent appeal for the grade ... so 40 and a bean looks right.

    I was going back and forth between 40 and 45 but settled with 45. It’s a beautiful coin, one worthy of a stretch price. Don’t blame you for paying extra, I would have done the same!
