Gold Buffalo 2023
The 2023 gold Buffalo releases tomorrow and the price is still under wraps!!! Talk about waiting till the final few moments. Is there still a lot of interest in these or has the novelty faded? If they had continued making these in just silver, do you think they would be more popular??

They base the price on bullion price and Wednesday is the end of the week for the calculation. They always reprice in Wednesdays.

2022 Buffalo is at $2890, so 2023 will certainly not be cheaper... (wow, mathematical genius at work

there is no limit on how much you can order, because the mint is hoping someone just might buy 2. you could get it graded and come back pr 70 dcam, you might break even before fees

Why didn't the buffalo adopt the anti-counterfeit variable reeding and only the silver and gold eagles? I have each buffalo issue MS/SP/PF and will likely continue with the 2023 but yikes with that price!

Wow, there is a $1000 difference between MS and Proof coins? The proofs are prettier, but I don't know if they are $1000 worth of prettier. Linda (my wonderful girlfriend of 12 years) just bought a 2023 MS70 from Apmex for $2300 yesterday. From the photos, they don't look much different. Of course, they are probably just stock photos. The cert number is identical on them.

Something very easy to pass on. Aside from the two gold coins for Apollo 11, I own no gold. I might buy the one for the greatest generation commemorative in 2024.

You can argue about whether it's worth it or not, but a higher premium generally leads to lower sales and more collectability and value down the road, so it is a double edged sword.

The US Mint has been raising premiums... because they can. There seem to be plenty who are willing to pay the price.
The US Mint can sell the coins at much more reasonable prices. But the situation will not change, until the buyers decide they have had enough.

I think most people miss the point which is that it doesn't matter what the mint sells it for as long as it maintains its value. I haven't really looked into this but from what I can remember seeing, in most cases you can sell your gold buffalo for close to what you paid for it if not more. And if that's the case, why does it matter what they charge?

Uncirculated Buffalo certainly hold their value as they are tied to spot and a little bit above but recent gold proof buffaloes hold their original mint value? Over spot?

Liberty Coin has the 2022's raw at $2600 and 2021's at $2800 on ebay. that's a little bit of a hit from mint issue price, but 10% is by no means a big hit, and once Liberty is sold out I think the market price goes over $3k like the rest of the listings.

I also failed to account for the year-to-year price differences throughout the series due to factors like mintages.
I am not very experienced with compiling sold prices from eBay. I will have to work on that.

Looks doubtful we will see a sellout of the 2023 gold buffalo $50, unless gold drops a whole lot.

I bought one, as we ( my wife doesn't agree) will leave a gold buff proof to each grandkid for their birth year. 17 grandkids x 2940 ? In 2007, they seemed cheap. Darn kids shoulda stopped having kids back then. ( my wife agrees). I'm with Miles' opinion : probably should have stuck with bullion coins. We have two born in 2008 and one in '21. My wife says it isn't fair that some kids get more value than others. I told her none of them are aware of value. I don't think todays' society understands much. I know we don't.

I imagine that average will continue to fall over the next several weeks.

Yeah, right! One of the biggest items to ‘shrink’ has been bagged ice! For ever is was 10 lbs. and now 7, a 30% decrease!
