The 2023 gold Buffalo releases tomorrow and the price is still under wraps!!! Talk about waiting till the final few moments. Is there still a lot of interest in these or has the novelty faded? If they had continued making these in just silver, do you think they would be more popular??

They base the price on bullion price and Wednesday is the end of the week for the calculation. They always reprice in Wednesdays.
2022 Buffalo is at $2890, so 2023 will certainly not be cheaper... (wow, mathematical genius at work ). Stay tuned Cheers, RickO

Here’s the official info. Only $900 premium. Good deal 😂
🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
there is no limit on how much you can order, because the mint is hoping someone just might buy 2. you could get it graded and come back pr 70 dcam, you might break even before fees
Why didn't the buffalo adopt the anti-counterfeit variable reeding and only the silver and gold eagles? I have each buffalo issue MS/SP/PF and will likely continue with the 2023 but yikes with that price!
Just to post it with today's release...it is a beautiful coin and love the hammered field.
Only 13,806 remain.

Anyone think the 2033 Liberty will be priced at s similar level?
Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.
Depends upon spot at release.

FWIW, the Liberty is $25.00 more than the AGB.
The Native American seems to be smirking yet...
I was looking at the head of the Buffalo.
He appears to be looking down and disgusted.
I wonder if he heard the price of the coin?
Wow, there is a $1000 difference between MS and Proof coins? The proofs are prettier, but I don't know if they are $1000 worth of prettier. Linda (my wonderful girlfriend of 12 years) just bought a 2023 MS70 from Apmex for $2300 yesterday. From the photos, they don't look much different. Of course, they are probably just stock photos. The cert number is identical on them.

Something very easy to pass on. Aside from the two gold coins for Apollo 11, I own no gold. I might buy the one for the greatest generation commemorative in 2024.
That's how it's always been. Bullion vs "collectible" numismatics. You can argue about whether it's worth it or not, but a higher premium generally leads to lower sales and more collectability and value down the road, so it is a double edged sword.
They'll probably have a surplus , and these might still be available at the mint in 2025.
Build it and they will come. Until they don't.
The US Mint has been raising premiums... because they can. There seem to be plenty who are willing to pay the price.
The US Mint can sell the coins at much more reasonable prices. But the situation will not change, until the buyers decide they have had enough.
I myself 'have had enough of the steep prices' several years ago.
But I suppose we do have different market forces at work now, so perhaps that is just the way it is.
I think most people miss the point which is that it doesn't matter what the mint sells it for as long as it maintains its value. I haven't really looked into this but from what I can remember seeing, in most cases you can sell your gold buffalo for close to what you paid for it if not more. And if that's the case, why does it matter what they charge?
Uncirculated Buffalo certainly hold their value as they are tied to spot and a little bit above but recent gold proof buffaloes hold their original mint value? Over spot?
I am NOT saying that JM Bullion pays the most for this particular item, but right now, just as a reference:

You can't compare wholesale melt prices to retail prices. Liberty Coin has the 2022's raw at $2600 and 2021's at $2800 on ebay. that's a little bit of a hit from mint issue price, but 10% is by no means a big hit, and once Liberty is sold out I think the market price goes over $3k like the rest of the listings.
Excellent point. I also failed to account for the year-to-year price differences throughout the series due to factors like mintages.
I am not very experienced with compiling sold prices from eBay. I will have to work on that.
In any event, thanks for the 'constructive feedback/eduction'.
That is a nice stack!
That was from April 14th

Looks doubtful we will see a sellout of the 2023 gold buffalo $50, unless gold drops a whole lot.
If the mint continues availability, they should sell out sometime around 2044 at this rate.
Or maybe a crisis will happen and the mint will pull their stock and melt them down and we'll have a super low mintage.

I bought one, as we ( my wife doesn't agree) will leave a gold buff proof to each grandkid for their birth year. 17 grandkids x 2940 ? In 2007, they seemed cheap. Darn kids shoulda stopped having kids back then. ( my wife agrees). I'm with Miles' opinion : probably should have stuck with bullion coins. We have two born in 2008 and one in '21. My wife says it isn't fair that some kids get more value than others. I told her none of them are aware of value. I don't think todays' society understands much. I know we don't.

That's an average of 150 coins/day sold.....for now.
I imagine that average will continue to fall over the next several weeks.
TwoSides, sounds like the two born in 2008 did the best, so far!
And good for you.
A little late to the party here, but I got mine the day after it went on sale.
Why do I feel like the bank robbed me??
Its getting REAL difficult to pick 1 up each year and keep the ball rollin.
At least they haven't downsized the coin. It's still a solid ounce. Many, many companies have been using what we call in the industry shrinkflation . In this instance, the coin would begin becoming increasingly thinner.
I wouldnt mind if they did fractionals again, at least the 1/2 ounce. I bought the 1/2 ounce the 1 year they did that.
Coins remaining at this time.....6,910.
Yeah, right! One of the biggest items to ‘shrink’ has been bagged ice! For ever is was 10 lbs. and now 7, a 30% decrease!
So next we see a wafer thin DE, huh?😂
