I don't recall having ever received a roll from a bank like this before...

A former student, who graduated from the high school where I teach, works as a teller at my bank. He occasionally sets aside coins for me, which I gladly buy from his till. Today, he had a full roll of large-sized dollars saved for me. You can understand if I imagined an entire roll of silver dollars coming my way. While that didn't quite happen, I don't remember seeing a paper roll like this before. When I buy Ikes from the bank, they come loose, never rolled. I'm certain some of our forum members here recall when rolls of these were more widely available, but this is a first for me.

Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

    You can "age" a new paper tube roll with a soft copper wire brush and some black ink slightly sponged onto the roll in stretegic places to make it look old for a better selling point. The guy may have given up trying to sell that roll and just turned them it to the bank.

    Here is what the paper rolls look like before the "Antiqueing" treatment.........

    You can still buy the wrappers, and I have to roll the loose coins I get all the time from my various financial facilities. I got $31 worth of Ikes just today from one of my credit unions.

    @anablep... It is great to have an 'inside' contact at the bank. Interesting roll... all 1971 except for one 1977.... Cheers, RickO

    You saw that 1977 too. It thought it would get away with hanging with all its 1971 "friends".

    Yeah, I thought that was strange, too. One '77 with mostly MS '71's makes me wonder if it was originally a full 1971 roll and just the one was replaced... but why?

    A dozen years ago when I was dealing Ikes I bought a stack of paper rolls from Ebay. They looked just like that one. The ones available now are gray.
