    I have a bunch of similar mint set errors that came out of a dealer estate. QC at the mint US not perfect. You will find missing coins, substituted coins, etc. It is pretty scarce, but it happens.

    Someone posted a mint set that had 2 dimes in the space where 1 dime belongs. Stuff happens.

    This area looked tampered with to me. I could be wrong.

    I don't see anything unusual there. And if you look at the top part, you can see the edge marks on the plastic which look authentic.

    No. I have seen errors like this before. I once had a set that had a piece of string in it shipped to me directly from the mint.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    What's going on with the nickel in the Denver package? It looks like it's missing a chunk. How many times did lightning strike this mint set?

    I would not be surprised. I go through thousands and thousands and thousands of 1950-64 proof sets a year, and have seen a number of things like this, all in untampered, original packaging. The mint is a production facility, things happen.

    A couple of my favorites from times past were a 69 mint set with a decent sized bread crumb sealed in with one of the coins, and a 74 proof set with a wood fragment from having been "bonked" with a piece of wood and mallet used to seat the coins in their slots.

    The 1968 do not strike P halves. Only Denver. Another false mentions on eBay.

    I have one with a rock, pebble or stone in the mint set. Didn't know the mint packaging room was a construction site! 😂

    Or maybe it's rock cocaine! 🤣 🤣 Who know what's happening at the Philly mint these days. 😉

    The set is NOT missing a half dollar as no 1968 Philadelphia halves were minted. The set is complete and contains one extra cent.

    The S mint nickels is normal.

    A Denver dime in the '69 Philly packet is a common error. I've seen four or five of them at least.

    I know they exist; that's still no guarantee that these are original. I just think this set and the set in the OP both look fishy. Combine that with the fact that this guy doesn't even know that pre-82 cents weren't "coated"... no thanks.
