Carson City Mint Museum

Hi,

I'll be driving through Carson City next month, and I'm interested in going to the museum in the old Mint building there.

Is it worth a stop, given that I'm a coin enthusiast and I'll be in Carson City anyway?

    I believe it's worth a visit to see CC Coin Press #1 and their coin/die collection.

    I have been to the museum twice. It is very much worth your time. Northern Nevada Coin is across the street.

    If you have kids with you be sure to leave via the "authentic mine" in the basement.

    I'd love to see it. I've done Charlotte, Dahlonega, and San Francisco, is all.

    Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

    Definitely stop by Northern Nevada Coin right across the street from the Mint. Great shop and great people. Check their website a few days before you get there and if you see any coins you like call and tell them you'd like to see them. They have multiple locations in NV and you can never tell where an individual coin will be. It only takes them a day or two to transfer coins between the different locations.

    We stopped by the museum the other day.

    It was fun! Lots of interesting things, and worth the $10 price of admission. I don't know that I would recommend going way out of one's way to get there, but it was a good visit.

    I may head over there tomorrow. Today I visited the historic Nevada Capital building on the other side of the street. One of the rooms has been converted to a museum and I actually found an exhibit relating to the Carson City Mint with depictions of all the types of coins minted there. Of particular interest was an interactive display that had the observe and the reverse of a Carson City coin mounted to allow one to create a pencil shadow keepsake.

    The afore referenced visit to the Historic Nevada State Capitol in Carson City on the opposite side of the street from where the Carson City Mint was located.

    I've been there a couple of times, in the 90's. I still have my CC Mint medallion. Nicely toned, I might add. ;)

    I remember two glass cases where CC Mint coins were displayed; I think all the dates and denoms were represented(?)
