NOT the kind of box you want from PCGS

Picked this up at my PO yesterday. Awfully nice of them to let me pay twice to ship a box they destroyed. Thankfully, the contents were unharmed.

Glad to hear the contents were OK.... The box sure took a whack though.... Cheers, RickO
Glad the contents were unharmed.
I can understand PCGS' refusing the package, however. If they touch it, it becomes at least potentially their problem. If they refuse it, it's between you and USPS.

Luckily the contents didn't disappear. They make these flat rate boxes very thin and cheaply now. I use lots of tape.
@messydesk I did not see why it was refused! I would be upset too.

The small flat rate box is one of the worst products the USPS makes IMO, given how thin and overall small it is. When I want to ship something around that size, I use this box (https://store.usps.com/store/product/shipping-supplies/priority-mail-box-1096l-P_O_1096L) and put it in a padded flat rate envelope. The cost is a few dozen cents more, but the box is bigger (more coins or more padding) and the outer padded flat rate envelope is one more line of protection. Depending on which generation of slab, you can fit somewhere between 12-20 slabs in a package sent this way.
I think I misunderstood... these were coins you sent to PCGS for grading?

Thanks for this tip! (Link works without the final parentheses.)

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.Well, I am glad your coins were intact at least! I hate to say it, but I have suspected for some time that there are certain individuals at USPS, UPS, and FedEx that carry pocket sized metal detectors, and scan for precious metals in packages. I have heard far too many horror stories about silver and gold going missing in shipment, and several cases where the box was blatantly sliced open, and contents removed. So... I sure am glad that didn't happen to you. It just makes you want to throw up when you see that.
Eww, that's not good. At least the contents are ok
Damaged packages are a pain. I also don’t like the fact that you can scan a box with your NFC scanner on your phone and find out what coins are in a box without even opening it!
Being as those are flat rate boxes.
I've sent a few items to buyers in hollowed out old books then packed in a USPS box.
Of course. I've done the same thing. Quite a while ago, a box showed up for me with a nice stab wound through the word "Fragile" that was written on the front.

Good question- this was a FedEx box I received from a dealer. Inside was another box and inside that was a coin in bubble wrap. I used my PCGS app scanner on the box in the condition it arrived and up popped the coin etc. Others have posted similar situations here on the forum. Not sure if that would have popped up if I didn’t have the PCGS app already loaded on my phone?
ouch
