My Completed Dansco 7070 Type Set...

"What a long, strange trip it's been"...
I first started this album about 25 years ago when I was just getting back into collecting. My mother had just moved and found my old coin collection that had been stored since I left for college at 17 years old. A few of those coins were in the first iteration of the set... VG Indian Head Cent from my grandfather... AU Morgan Dollar also from gramps... and a 1964 Kennedy Half I got from roll searching when I was about 12 years old. I pulled the coins that had sentimental value and replaced them along the way, except for the 1964 Kennedy Half. That coin represents my humble beginnings and I kept in in this set. There are a number of others I kept from the second iteration of the set that represent my journey to being a more seasoned numismatist... and a few of those I'll likely upgrade in the future... My Liberty Nickel was the best bulk bin find (85 Cents)... the Walking Liberty Half... ditto for the princely sum of $2.50. There are a few other pieces like this that will be easily replaced. I ended up selling off many of the higher end coins from the second attempt (Life intervenes with a young family sometimes) but I kept more of the coins I knew I wouldn't get a whole lot of money for, and selling definitely opened up my eyes to The Market... and grading! By my third attempt at completing this set, I was a bit more knowledgeable and more directed... but I knew enough to "know what I don't know" and ask questions. There is certainly room for upgrades to this set, but I think I'm ready to put down "Type" for a while and settle into Early Copper... As always... thoughts and comments welcomed... Best, Leo

Nice set, congrats. I'm having a god awful time trying to find a "Classic Head" large cent with a clean planchet and straight graded VF 35 - XF 45. I might add also, priced under 2K.
I think it's gotta be one of the toughest US coins to find clean and problem free.I would rather join with an army of sheep led by a lion, than an army of lions led by sheep.

I'm doing gold by "denomination" in my Box of 20. That way, I'm able to include the $3 Gold that the 7070 page omits, and I get to include a smattering (two coins) of California Fractionals.

I always thought a complete 7070 (no gold) was out of reach for me. Like you, I stuck with it till the end. All straight graded, problem free coins. I broke many out as well... Simply because I didn't trust my non-professional skills to detect problem coins. The seated dollars were a major challenge. Yours are outstanding! 👍🏻 👍🏻
One comment I will make. I guess it's to late now but I would have taken pictures of the slabs, broken them out, print out the pictures, scotch tape the barcode to the pictures and put them in a clear sleeve in the back of the album.

Your bust half is magnificent.
My only humble suggestion is to place the inserts on a separate page in the back, as they
do slightly distract from the overall presentation.3 -

I took pictures of pretty much all of the coins "pre-crack". The last "coin" to be put in will be a plastic "proxy coin" with the certification number written on it. I'm not going to crack the Seated Liberty Dollar this go around. It sort of reflects the next step in my collecting evolution... cool certified Type for the Box of 20. All of those will be slabbed (PCGS or NGC) and most of the coins I have are Trueview'd. I'm about halfway through...

I got my Capped Bust Half raw from Liz Coogan when she was still at JJ Teaparty. She had taken in a bunch of new coins and passed the box to me. When I explained to her that I was looking for "lightly circulated with hints of luster in the devices" she knew just what I was after. It was on her recommendation I bought it. I'm glad I did...

A completed 7070 is a joy to behold! Your Classic half cent, Legend half dime, and Capped Bust (LE) half caught my eye.

I think it's gotta be one of the toughest US coins to find clean and problem free.I had to circle back and comment here... my progress on this set was stymied for almost a year looking for a straight graded VF20 or better Classic Head LC, with nice color and a smooth planchet. I had a small pile of cash set aside for this purpose and was adamant about staying "focused" to the point where I passed on several really nice Seated Dollars and a particular T1 SLQ-FH. The problem was that even the pieces that were straight graded... to my eye... also had "issues". Why would I spend nearly $1500 on a problem coin just to crack it and compound the problem. Nice raw pieces exist, but there are so few higher end EAC dealers that they can charge whatever they want... and get it. In the end, I decided to accept a Details coin with enough meat left on it to justify the purchase. It also helped that it was priced at about a third of the cost of everything else I was looking at. So, this freed up funds for other coins and I was finally able to make significant progress on the rest of the set...
Now that I'm done and more focused on early copper, I'll likely go back and revisit this piece... but you're absolutely right, this one hole in the set was probably the most difficult piece to find nice and at an affordable price.

...oh yeah! Excellent collection. I used to have a 7070 at one point, but fell on hard times a few years back and had to sell it to make things right.....

Nice set....I especially like that you included the labels from the crackout coins.
I have a 7070 that I have been working on for awhile, but am sort of stuck on the early coppers (1/2 cent and cents), and many of the early silvers (1/2 dime and $ especially). They are just out of my budget for now (2 teachers paying our bills and some of the wife's grandmother's to help her out), unless I go with problem coins, which I really don't want to do (old, retoned cleanings maybe...).

Very nice! My album has been complete for a few years now. I'm quite happy with it too. Every time I pull it out and look it over, it's like seeing old friends. Because I spent so much time putting it together, all the coins are very familiar to me and easy to catch back up with...

FYI.............The Intercept gold page is the same size as the dansco album . You just need to move the binder holes to fit the dansco. The green Intercept page really makes the gold pop. It is also available for under $10 bucks and readily available.

True... and the Intercept gold page includes all three gold $1 types and the $3 (if I'm not mistaken)... but I was a bit nervous cracking out a few of the coins I did for the base set. So, I decided to do gold "by denomination" and included California Fractional currency too. I'm keeping them holdered and including them in my Box of 20. I like the authentication that PCGS/NGC provides, especially for coins that are heavily counterfeited. When possible, I'm doing Trueviews too... here's my work in progress:
