The good ole days when you could ship things on a Greyhound Bus

20 years or so ago, a friend used to manufacture Halloween props. Haunted house things, guillotines, things like that. He shipped that stuff through Greyhound all the time.

Thanks to the OP for this post. I particularly enjoyed reading the VNA note, because it was so well-written. Something we can no longer take for granted, to put it mildly.

I collected (massive) old radios for years and GPX was the only effective way of shipping these beasts. Sic transit, as they say.

Now the main thing here is that I can't figure out how people got into that old bus in the photo! It's easy to see the break at the leading edge of where the door ought to be, but there's no other evidence of a door that I can see. What am I missing?

Non-coin story. My roommate about 25 years ago locked his key in his car in another city about 3.5 hours away. He had a spare at the apartment. I contemplated making the 7 hour roundtrip myself but found Greyhound would deliver the small package (one-way of course) for something like $20 if I recall. Easiest decision ever, same-day schedule was perfect and worked like a charm!

When I was in the service in the early 70s, a friend of mine shipped a .22 rifle via Greyhound bus, from California to Kentucky.

After he shipped it, he discovered that you were not allowed to send firearms via the Greyhound bus.

When the package arrived at his home in Kentucky, it was marked “used car parts”.

When I started at Coin World in 1973 Sidney, OH (on the old US-25 "Dixie Highway") had a news stand downtown just off the Courthouse Square that was also the Greyhound Station. You could get out of town newspapers there that came in by bus, and one time when my mechanic needed a part for my car he had it shipped in on the Greyhound.
