20 years or so ago, a friend used to manufacture Halloween props. Haunted house things, guillotines, things like that. He shipped that stuff through Greyhound all the time.
I believe you can still ship by Greyhound bus.
We used to ship parts by bus when the market was ultra competitive. Same day delivery in State.
In the 70's we shipped and received parts from 500 miles away in as quick as 10-12 hours daily and at a fee that was 10% of what it costs today by any means. I can remember the day we lost greyhound service and that became the largest customer complaint we had for a couple of years. Cost went crazy overnite.

You can still ship with Greyhound

thats interesting, thanks for sharing
I remember hustling to get the package to the bus station to make the same day to E. WA. Wow that is a gut punch for some reason. They tore the old ornate bus station down to redevelopment in downtown Seattle. City didn't want the "image". Sad.
Thanks to the OP for this post. I particularly enjoyed reading the VNA note, because it was so well-written. Something we can no longer take for granted, to put it mildly.
I collected (massive) old radios for years and GPX was the only effective way of shipping these beasts. Sic transit, as they say.
Now the main thing here is that I can't figure out how people got into that old bus in the photo! It's easy to see the break at the leading edge of where the door ought to be, but there's no other evidence of a door that I can see. What am I missing?
The easy part to me hopping onboard in Boston, 8 years old, going to Maine was the door, the difficult thing for a kid was the luggage.

Non-coin story. My roommate about 25 years ago locked his key in his car in another city about 3.5 hours away. He had a spare at the apartment. I contemplated making the 7 hour roundtrip myself but found Greyhound would deliver the small package (one-way of course) for something like $20 if I recall. Easiest decision ever, same-day schedule was perfect and worked like a charm!
I just found out greyhound doesn't ship the other day.
I came across a deal on some recumbent bikes and my friend in Washington wanted them bad.
Without greyhound freight it was too cost prohibitive regular freight.
I remember getting Volkswagen Type2 bus transmissions across the country for $50.
When I was in the service in the early 70s, a friend of mine shipped a .22 rifle via Greyhound bus, from California to Kentucky.
After he shipped it, he discovered that you were not allowed to send firearms via the Greyhound bus.
When the package arrived at his home in Kentucky, it was marked “used car parts”.
I traveled by bus only once.... Was a long trip from NYS to FL.... Never again. Cheers, RickO
When I started at Coin World in 1973 Sidney, OH (on the old US-25 "Dixie Highway") had a news stand downtown just off the Courthouse Square that was also the Greyhound Station. You could get out of town newspapers there that came in by bus, and one time when my mechanic needed a part for my car he had it shipped in on the Greyhound.
My mom would ship us to grandma's via the Greyhound bus back in the early 70's. Not sure I would be doing that now.
mine also, from Boston to Maine
