Edit - The Morgan Dollar avatar was temporary...the focus on the Nostalgia Collection is not.
I changed my avatar to a Morgan dollar and a good friend reached out and asked me if I was having a midlife crisis. Well, I am having a "collecting midlife crisis" in that I've decided to move away from colonials and focus more on my "Nostalgia Collection" - key dates and other coins I wanted when I was a kid.
I recently bought an 09-S VDB, and I have a three legged buffalo and an 1877 Three Cent Nickel. I just bought another key date for my Nostalgia Collection. I haven't received it yet, but I'll post a thread about it when I do. I'm having a lot of fun buying these coins and being a kid again.
Anyway, the Morgan dollar in my avatar is my 1878-CC. Not a key date, but one that represents the 1878-CC Morgan dollar my grandmother gave me when I was about ten years old. It's the coin that got me interested and made me a collector.

Thanks! Unfortunately, no. I sold it along with the rest of my collection when I was 16 or 17. I wish I had them all back!
Collect what you enjoy. That’s what the hobby is about.
I have nostalgic feelings about the Indian cent collection I sold many years ago. I had an excellent chance to rebuild it when I was a dealer, but now not so much. The coins would need to be mostly raw and in an album.

I'm not sure who CRO uses now, but for a while they used Mark Goodman to take the photos. Would be cool to know if the photos were taken by Mark or another well known coin photographer.

John has told me that he takes his own pics now, preferring to avoid the delay, risk, and expense of shipping his coins to a photographer.

Congrats! I know we have had a few chats about some great coins. Great coins for each series. It's fun and I am excited for you to be on a quest for what you enjoy.

My Dad bought me an 1878-CC $1 in Unc. in the early 1960's for $4.50! I wish that I had it now.

I was an aimless collector back when I was a kid, so there are few memories of items I attempted to acquire or were given to me. However, your collecting goal makes complete sense to me and we can all feel the excitement you have coming through the thread. Good luck with it!

Nostalgia is a funny thing! I collected wheat pennies as a teenager and by the time I was 17 in 1982, I had a complete collection averaging XF grade in a Dansco album. Sold the collection in 1983 to support my '67 Chevelle SS kick and to splurge on girl friend. Now I have a complete set that's MS-64 and higher in a Dansco album. Yep, I freed many from their PCGS and NGC slabs just so I could look at all the red on each flip of the page!

I carry a well worn 1878-CC Morgan in my pocket. It's a conversation starter, and I just like having it. First year of issue, the most sought after of the Morgan mint marks. I can't even recall where I got it exactly but I do carry it often.

Oh yes! The 55 DDO is one of my all-time favorite coins. I've been fortunate to own a few nice ones over the years and I'll be adding another one to the Nostalgia Collection as soon as I can.

Sounds like a fun project. I had some interesting coins as a kid... all disappeared from my 'storage drawer' after I joined the Navy. My kid brother likely spent a few, and my Mom also cleaned out the bureau and spent the rest. Had three '55 DDO's... IHC's... Buffs... Mercs... All collected from change on my paper route.... Oh well, had fun with them when I had them. Cheers, RickO

Sounds like you’re on a good direction and it makes perfect sense.
I’ve done similarly since retiring though I have yet to thin down the bulk of my collection. Got to do that!
