Suspicious e-mail message from @spaceheart2020

Received an e-mail message from @spaceheart2020 about an item I am looking to buy on BST forum.
It reads:
"Hello
I recently purchase some items from a member here @Gr33n , 2022 S reverse proof RI American Innovation Dollar are among the items he's willing to part out with. You can email him at alifatehy696@gmail.com if he still have it available for sale.
Thanks."
BEWARE as it is a scam from a new member who only joined on January 31, 2023 8:06AM.

I suggest editing the thread title to include the names you mentioned in your post and starting an additional thread on the BST.

I did add the sender's name into the discussion tittle as well as posting this info on the BS&T forum.

The internet, while incredibly useful, is getting dirtier by the day. I'm constantly hearing about bad PM's. You can't imagine how many bogus websites there are for common ammunition.
Ricko probably has seen some. I see guys taken by them almost daily.
Some internet buying rules.....Never pay with Venmo, no Paypal 'friends and family', be careful with money orders.....If a website doesn't take credit cards, run away.....

Don't get me wrong; This deal posted by the OP has scam written all over it of course, but not all newbs are crooks. Much like it is with feedback on eBay, folks have to start someplace. I think things need to be looked at situationally.

Also, since BST was mentioned...I've been a proponent of having an X number of posts threshold before BST can be utilized and that our host should have a pinned thread with confirmed BST good guys who are OK to deal with, as confirmed by their trading partners from the boards. Not a perfect plan to be sure, but better than simple "be careful" advice. Frankly I've said elsewhere in fact- more than once in the past- that I think BST could become problematic and potentially expose our host to liability in the case of scams, deals gone wrong etc. Just saying.

I got it and promptly sent a message. The offer arrived at 4 am and lack of coffee and brains and there I was. Amazing I thought, exact same email you guys were sent except the item was my long sought quarters. I saw Wayneas post on the bst (. Bless you sir) and thought I would seek some sympathy from my cats. Ya, they’ll understand 😂👶

As with any new or newer account of any sort, it's best to have someone, or even more, vouch for them as having done business with them in the past before proceeding any further.

If you do decide to go ahead and try to make a deal without any recommendations first, have them send the items for approval before sending payment. If they don't agree with that request, you probably just saved yourself a bit of a headache in one way or another.

Because if you are right, the answer is to shut down the forum altogether, or at least the BST. Not to publish a list of safe users, that would only create another avenue for potential liability.

This is America. Anyone can sue anyone for anything. That isn't going to change. A way our hosts insulate themselves from potential liability is to not imply an endorsement of any of us with respect to financial transactions we might engage in with each other.

We either use common sense and figure out who the good guys are on our own, or we don't and we suffer the consequences. They are not going to risk creating additional problems for themselves in an attempt to protect us from ourselves. Again, when they are seriously worried about liability, they will just shut it down altogether. Especially since they don't see a dime of revenue from it.

I understand that; I've been against having BSTs on forums altogether because there's nothing to go on but blind faith... the list was just a suggestion for an alternative.

I hear you, but it's not an answer. Sometimes you can't save people from their own stupidity, and most don't want to live in a nanny state. The forum is better than 99% of the rest of the internet, because it's a community of mostly knowledgeable, decent people who try to look out for each other.

The BST is a convenience for them that Collectors Universe offers. It's unreasonable to expect them to go to the trouble and expense of vetting users, and then accepting liability whenever something goes sideways. So, they post the sign "No Lifeguard on Duty. Swim at Your Own Risk," and you then decide whether or not to go in the water.

If you want guarantees, you shop at stores that take credit cards and that offer guarantees. Otherwise, everything is blind faith in one form or another. A little common sense goes a long way here, and you really don't need multiple threads to figure out that spaceheart is a scammer.

Spaceheart is obviously a scammer; that was never in question. And I realize that BST is offered as a convenience by our hosts; that's obvious. I'm just saying that sometimes no good deed goes unpunished.
