Was someone messing up quarters, or is this some sort of mint error?

I pulled this from a coin roll. From what I know and have learned reading here and elsewhere, this looks like someone got a little crazy with a grinder of some sort. There are scratches on the obverse and reverse. The reeding on the rim is also largely gone. Am I right in thinking this is PMD, or is it possible that something went very wrong when minting this coin? I just want to be sure before I throw it back.

Thanks for any input. I'm still learning...

@hawkowl ... Totally PMD.... If you understand the minting process, you will know immediately that this could not occur at the Mint. Your intuition was correct....Cheers, RickO

You know very well that coin is nothing more than damaged junk.

    Welcome and nice photos.
Well, as far as someone working the coin, it’s not our work. We’re much better than that! 😂😺😻🙀🦫👶

Thanks all for confirming my working assumption.

I think I'll bury this in the back yard so when someone finds it in a few hundred years, it will look like something great.
