1965 Quarter - DDO or Machine Doubling?

Hi All,
This is my first go at trying to sort out the difference between a legit DDO and machine doubling. I'm seeing conflicting information online and I've been looking at some of the ID posts in this forum, so I thought I would ask a group of people way smarter than me.

The coin is rather worn, so the best examples of the doubling are in the IGWT and the date. Washington also has a bit of a double profile around the chin area. "Liberty" is fairly worn, so I can't see any doubling there. I also don't see any indication of a doubled eye, but I understand that is one of the areas that can be worn away as it is a high spot.

In any case, following are the pics I took.

Any help or addition info as to what to look for is fully appreciated.

First off, nice photos! Secondly, this is just strike doubling which is caused by loose parts in the press. True hub doubling will show up as notches and/or split serifs on the lettering. Go to Variety Vista to view photos of hub doubling.

Is there a known 1965 DDO? If so, it must look exactly like that. If not, you're looking for unicorns. See varietyvista.com

@hawkowl... Welcome aboard. Definitely mechanical doubling. Great pictures. Cheers, RickO

I suspected MD based on an earlier thread I had read here, but I wanted to be sure. I was aware of the notches and/or split serifs MarkKelley mentioned, but I wasn't certain that they might not be worn off in an older coin so as not to be a reliable indicator of a valid DDO.

Thanks all for the helpful comments.

This should be your approach, to make sure there is a known DD on a particular date/mm before you scrutinize a particular coin for a DD.

You're looking in the right place with great pictures. That's half the battle here. When you do find one it will jump out at you, trust me!

In answer to both JBK and jmlanzaf, as I understand it there definitely are several known DDOs on 1965 Quarters. They are listed in the Cherrypicker's Guide, on the PCGS website and on Variety Vista, so I assume they are valid. My problem is I have never seen one in the wild, and as I imagine they look differently at different stages of their wear life, I wanted to be sure I was looking for the right markers.

Thanks to all here for the help in sorting this out.

And Oakstar, I'm hoping one will jump out any day now. :#

BTW, what mint mark is on this coin?

Never mind. I just figured it out. 🤪
