Share your first purchase of 2023

I have seen a few threads reflecting on the purchases of this past year, but none like this one yet. Nice color and a great deal to boot, this is how I started off my new year of coin collecting! How about you?

If this thread doesn't come to a halt after a few months, you aren't buying enough coins ;)

I have my eye on a few Kennedys that will upgrade my sets but have not pulled the trigger yet.
I also have been on the lookout for a reverse proof 2022 S, Rhode Island Innovation coin in pr70.

Cheap eBay album with a more than likely counterfeit 1974 aluminum cent.

Gorgeous! @lermish. Looks much better than the usual ms64 saint. love it

I didn't realize you could insert instagram videos into a comment here. I'm going to create an alternate account for my coin collecting soon, I want to partake in more collecting related activities and its probably in my best interest that its not linked with my personal account

    Thank you!!!

I just found out that video could be inserted by accident but super easy - just paste the link.

I do not have a personal (non-coin) Insta but if I did I would absolutely keep it separate from coin activities (for several and obvious reasons).

This just arrived today. Technically I bought it on December 30 though, so I’m not sure if it counts here lol. A little bit off the beaten path of my normal areas of interest, but it looked pretty and it was offered to me a really fair price.

I’ve been looking to buy one as well. Love it.

Just a small purchase. Been looking to upgrade some of my WLH collection that started with several of my Dad's coins he picked up from change in the 60's. Had a dirty VG 1938 P and scratched VF 37 S that needed upgrade. Both dates in graded MS started to get expensive at least for my collection. Found a raw 38 in AU for $35 and a nice AU50 37S for $65 on EBAY that fit nice in my LOC.

My first purchase of 2023 is this SAE that I just purchased on eBay with the intention of using it as a pocket piece for a couple weeks and submitting it to PCGS at the upcoming Long Beach show in hopes of it coming back as circulated. That way I can fill the slots in my circulated type registry sets here and across the street. This is the picture from the eBay auction, hopefully I’ll have it in hand (and in pocket) this weekend.

Picked these up as bullion before FUN. I will crack the slabbed one as I just want these in capsules.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

But it won’t really be “circulated”, will it? It’s still an uncirculated coin as it was never intended for circulation - this coin was initially a bullion coin, correct? Just trying to understand the purpose of your plan / with all due respect to you.

That’s easy to explain even though it sounds crazy. NGC has a 7070 Type Set in their Registry for circulated coins only. I was briefly #1 for about a week but then got bumped to #2. I already have all the classic coins and the only ones I don’t have are the modern coins. Below are the ones I still need and they have to be slabbed by NGC or PCGS with an AU or lower, no MS allowed and it includes a slot for a circulated SAE. Out of all the ones I still need, a circulated SAE is worth the most points. Most of the moderns in AU58 are worth less than about 10 points each, but an AU58 SAE is worth 147 points.
